I've also jus learned to accept "quiet time" is enough to her sometimes. Like she will just sit or lay there kind of zoning out, but won't fall asleep. I figure maybe not all babies need that much sleep? Maybe that's how our LOs are?

@2PeasinaPod: sorry you're going through this! I have a 5 month old that has never been a good napper either. Though in the last month I've been trying to watch her cues and try for naps as much as possible. She is notorious for 20 min. Naps and averages a total of 60-80 min a day. She is also a good sleeper in her crib at night. But nothing I do can make it okay for her to nap in the crib in the day! I've resorted to stroller, car, and swing naps anytime I can get them! Last resort if she's really fussy and overtired but won't go down, I will nurse lying down in my bed and she will nap on the boob. But like @SleepyMonkey: as soon as I move, she's awake.

@MrsScallop: Thank you!

Anyone else not use CIO and manage to get their kids to nap with just putting them down? How did you do it? I'm just not sure what else I need to do.

My update is that he cried on and off for an hour and 45 minutes...then laid down and started talking. I finally went in after he sat back up at 2 hours and got him up.

My LO is 8 months and completely tricked us last month into thinking she might be getting better at her naps. She was letting us put her down in her crib and would sleep for about an hour each time with minimal crying. Now, though, we are back to not being able to put her down if we want a decent nap out of her. I've been thinking about nap training, but I'm not sure how to do it without just letting her cry for the duration of her nap. So I feel your pain :( Hang in there!

@SleepyMonkey: I'm sorry you're going through something similar, but it helps to know that I'm not alone. I feel like the only person in the world with an 11 month old who will. not. nap.

Oh man, I'm sorry it has been so rough! I commiserate because my daughter is 10 months and a horrid napper for me but she is an ok napper for my mom, who watches her during the day. So weird. Maybe they just want to spend all of their time playing with us! Anyway, she will basically only nurse to sleep for her naps when I'm at home and if Move her she wakes up immediately. Then she is grumpy for the rest of the day. 45 mins max for naps. No advice but good luck and I hope it works out soon!

I'm trying to unsuccessfully nap train my 10.5 month old. I should have started this sooner, but LO has always been a horrible napper and we would take whatever we could get with him.

Now that he'll be 11 months next week, I cannot keep rocking him down for his naps. He wakes up the second you lay him in his crib and he doesn't go back down resulting in maybe a 15 minute nap all day. I'm exhausted the days I work from home and my dad is exhausted the days he's here. My BFF has him 2 days/week, and he goes down no problem for her for 2 hours in the morning and 2 hours in the afternoon.

Today is day 2 of me trying to repeat the bedtime routine and placing him in his crib. We do this at night and he rocks on all 4s for maybe a minute and then lies down and falls asleep.

Yesterday, I tried this once in the morning which resulted in him screaming his head off for an hour and a half. I finally went in and got him for his lunch. Tried again in the afternoon which resulted in an hour and 15 minutes of him screaming...falling asleep for 15 minutes, screaming for another 30 minutes and falling back to sleep for 30. He was captain crabby for the rest of the night and put his head down before I made it out of the room for night time.

Day 2, and I didn't even try for a morning nap. Put him in his crib at 12:30, and he's still crying, standing, jumping up and down. I'm already exhausted. If I go in, he just gets even more upset, so can't do checks. I have a video monitor and I know he's ok...he just wants me in there to rock him to sleep.

Tell me I'm not a bad mama and this will get better. It took us a month and a half to sleep train him at night with no crying at all.
