My LO did that at 7 months old. Try it. It was lifechanging to not have to rock her any more. I did the bedtime routine, put her in her crib and turned on her mobile. Generally, she's out in less than 3 min now. The first few days it took a bit longer - like 10 min, but that was way less crying than she was doing while I rocked her.

As for the waking early, I gave her 10 min to calm down again. If she was still crying, I just got her up. 99.99999999% of the time she was asleep again in 8 min.

I'm by no means an expert but I have always taken fighting being rocked to be a sign that she wants to go to sleep on her own. 90% of the time we still rock for naps because it's easy but if she fights it I will put her in her crib & she will fuss herself to sleep. When my mom watches her she often fights it more & she will pat her to sleep in the crib instead of rocking.

As far as the early wakings, no advice! It's pretty universal I think that once a baby has "knocked off" some sleepiness they have a really hard time falling back asleep so I think CIO for that would be pretty rough. When LO was 3-4 months old I would sneak in her room when I saw the first twitch on the video monitor, pick her up asleep & rock her through the sleep cycle transition. This extended naps until she eventually did it on her own but it was a pain in the ass! And I don't know how it would work with a more alert older baby.

My 8 month old has been rocked or fed to sleep his entire life. Recently, he's been fighting me more often when I try to rock him down for naps. This morning I was fed up after 15 min of screaming at me while I tried to rock him, so I put him in his crib and left him there. In 10 minutes, he was asleep. However, he woke up 20 min later screaming again (I think bc he fell asleep on his tummy and he hates that and unfortunately isn't good at rolling back over).. He wouldn't rock back to sleep, so I fed him his bottle that was due and he fell asleep again on the bottle.

We've always hesitated to sleep train, but does he sound like he's ready? Also, what do I do when he wakes up in 20 min screaming again?
