LO just took her first tummy nap today and it was her longest nap ever! She can roll over now onto her tummy but not the other way around.

I soooooo wish LMW would nap on her belly!! We've tried a few times but she's just not ready yet, or she's a back sleeper. When WJ was around 4 months he'd flip onto his belly for every sleep and slept great. No more gas, booger, blowout problems. Go for it!!

He'll probably start rolling to his belly in his sleep soon anyways (most babies do!) Right around 4.5 months is when my son started doing this. So I don't think it's a bad habit.

I think sleeping on the tummy is no big deal, especially when they have good head/neck control, and 100% once they can roll. My LO has been sleeping exclusively on his tummy since we stopped swaddling around 3 months, and he sleeps soooo much better that way.

I'm a total believer in tummy naps! It helps push gas out, they sleep better, and they build their neck/stomach muscles. I did tummy nap training on my DD ever since she was 10 weeks old and she was STTN since then (she's 4 months). She's hit the 4 month sleep regression so she's waking up more often now. But I still continue napping her on her tummy and will continue doing so. She rolls from tummy to back on her own so I figure that if she wants to sleep on her back, she can move herself. :)

BTW, at her 4 month appointment the ped commented that she had neck/tummy control and strength like a 5-6 month old. So it definitely works!

We also did naps on the belly starting around 10 weeks. He had really good head/neck control and could already push up on his arms. He slept so much better on his stomach for naps. I just kept an eye on him.

I started letting LO nap on her tummy at 10 weeks and sleep on her tummy when we swaddle weaned at 4 months. She always had excellent head control. I was always watching carefully and checking on her, so I wasn't too worried. Plus, she was FINALLY napping! Worth it.

So DS is 4 months old and a not-awesome napper. Until this week he wouldn't fall asleep unless he was in my arms nursing, he would only sleep for like MAYBE half an hour, and was a really light sleeper (as in: I shifted a tiny bit and he would wake up).

The past few days when I've put him down for tummy time he's whimpered for a few minutes and then fallen asleep. Yesterday he napped for 3 hours, which just blows my mind. But he's lying on the ground (on a blanket on a shag rug) on his stomach.

I feel like I should try to flip him onto his back but he naps SO MUCH BETTER on his stomach. I'm not particularly worried about him suffocating himself--his head is turned to the side and he has great head/neck control. (ETA: And I'm sitting a few feet away.) But am I encouraging super bad habits by letting him do this? He still sleeps on his back, although he rolls over onto his side a lot.

WWYD?
