At that age we just did whatever worked! We nursed to sleep almost exclusively, and even now at 10 months I give her a bottle before nap. It works great, so why not? At daycare that isn't the case, so I know she can put herself down, but it's soo much eaiser to feed to sleep! :silly: Anyhoo, don't worry too much about it, you're still in the trenches and should do whatever works for y'all!

My almost five week old will nap well in the swing but only once a day. He's pretty active so I try to catch him before he's overstimulated even if he's not showing tired signs.

That said, we are totally having the same struggle and there are days where he won't nap at all past the morning. I drive him around or go for walks or do anything to get even the briefest nap.

AT 6 weeks, I either nursed to sleep, used the swing, or he slept in the stroller. I always swaddled him tightly, which helped! I also think that at this age, "whatever works" is what goes :)

@Anagram: I'm debating if we should get a swing to see if it works for her. Right now she's still only sleeping on me (not complaining about that though! :) ) and wakes as soon as I'm not touching her (with the exception of a few 20 minute naps in her crib). Hopefully my DD is as easy as yours to nap train when the time comes!

At 6 weeks, I'd say you're still in the "whatever it takes" phase. I don't think you can do a nap incorrectly at that age, is what I'm trying to say--almost everyone I know was still using a swing, co-sleeping for naps, stroller napping, or letting the baby sleep on top of them at that age (including myself!).

I "nap trained" (actually, it didn't take much training) at around 4 months in anticipation of going back to work and LO was a beautiful sleeper who fell asleep on her own for a whole month. And then she started daycare, and she's never had a decent nap (at daycare) since. So it was all for nothing. =)

Share your nap secrets! How did you get you LO to nap as an infant? I know at that age it's so hard to have a schedule to it, but I'm more interested in what worked for you to just get them down?

DD is almost six weeks and up until the past week she was fairly easy to get to nap, which I attribute to the sleepy newborn phase. Because of that I never actively put her down for a nap until last weekend. Now after 45 minutes of awake time (including eating) she's a fussy mess and obviously needs to be put asleep. I try to catch it early and walk/bounce her around the house with some varying success. Usually while we're doing that she's rooting and smacking her lips like crazy. I feel bad not feeding her and give in most of the time and let her fall asleep on the breast. I'm not super worried about making a habit of it since she's so young, but she doesn't always fall asleep after eating AND I want to be able to do it without the crutch and to have "putting baby down" in my arsenal of skills :)

ETA: She's a chronic 20-45 minute napper and hates the paci so far.
