@Foodnerd81: thanks for the link, very helpful!

@delight: That's a nice little routine for you guys. B isn't crawling yet, so it will be interesting to see if the naps change again once that starts.

@MrsB2012: I think it's so great you are getting some good naps now! Don't wake her from them! :)

L has slowly gotten into the 2-3-4 sleep schedule and our schedule sounds somewhat similar to yours. She sleeps from about 7:30pm-7:30am and then goes down for her first nap at 9:30. She goes down for her second nap 3 hours after she wakes up. Then bedtime is about 4 hours after her second nap. She usually has a 2 hour nap and a 1 hour nap, sometimes the long one is in the morning, sometimes in the afternoon. I find now that L is crawling around, she is having longer naps. It's also nice that she can stay awake for longer periods of time too.

@MrsB2012: I've heard at this age, 3-3.5 hours of naps, total, is good. I usually let her nap as long as she wants unless we have to be somewhere, or it's getting too close to bedtime. You'll have to experiment with how late is too close to bedtime though! If she's had normal naps, I will wake her by 4:30 or 5 before a 7:30 bedtime.

I thought this blog post was helpful:

@MrsB2012: haha, I used to wake Xander from naps when he was an infant and I wanted to make sure he didn't get his days and nights reversed, but at 8 months, you can probably just let her nap! I'd only wake her up if her late afternoon nap was getting too late and would interfere with bedtime. :D

@Adira: I started waking her up.. I don't know why really haha. I guess cuz she went from napping from 20ish mins to 2 hours. I was afraid it would ruine her night time sleep? It sounds like this is normal so I'll probably start letting her go longer.

Thanks for the replies. I was wondering if it was too much. I'm just not used to having a napper :) I'm not complaining, it's great to be able to get things done for once!

That sounds great! At that age, LO slept about 11 hours overnight with a nap at 9 and 2, usually about 1hour 15 min eahc.

Those naps sound great to me! K sleeps 7:00pm-8:00am, with several wakeups during the night. She naps from about 10-11, and then around 1:30 for between 40 min and 1.5 hours.

B is 9.5 months but our days are similar to when he was 8 months. Bed at 7/7:30, wake to eat around 5, up for the day at 6:30/7, first nap at 9:30/10, then second nap anywhere from 1:30/3:30. His naps fluctuate from 30 mins-2 hours.

M is 8 months. She typically sleeps 7-8 with 2 wakeups (1 around 2:30 and 1 around 6). Then she naps from around 10-11:30 and 2-3:30

I think at 8 months, Xander was going to sleep around 7:00/7:30, doing a dreamfeed at 9:00, sleep until 5:00, nurse and back to bed, and then up for the day around 7:00. He was a catnapper, so he was usually up for 2-2.5 hours and then would take a 30 minute - 1 hour nap.

Out of curiosity, why are you waking her from her naps?

Those naps sound great! C is 8 months too and a typical day is something like: go to sleep at 7:30, maybe STTN, more often wake up once to eat. Up for the day between 6:30 and 7. First nap 9-10:30, second nap 1:30-3. It fluctuates a lot but that's the closest to a normal day that we have.

My daughter has never been a napper. In the last month or so she's finally discovered the joy of napping.

For about a month she was going to bed around 8/830 sleeping through until around 8 am. Then she would have about a half hour nap at 10am. ( from about 1 month - 7 months she was sleeping approx 11 hours at night straight through with no scheduled naps during the day. She would just nap in the carrier if we were out.)

Now she is going to bed at 730/8pm, waking up once randomly during the night between 2-530 where she will want to eat for about 5 minutes then go back to sleep. She is now napping from 10am-12pm then again from around 230-330 ( I wake her up at 12 and 330.) I'm not sure how long she would sleep if I didn't wake her up. Is this a normal sleep routine? I'm curious why she's suddenly napping so long during the day. What's your napping schedule like?
