I'd say go with it..but don't feel bad about it if it doesn't stay that way.

@maybebaby: I would definitely go with it. Don't teach him that he needs to be soothed to sleep if he doesn't!

I know what you mean about questioning everything now that you're on your own. It's so nice to have another person to bounce things off of! Your confidence will improve as time goes on.

With babe #2 we learned not to replicate the mistakes of #1 and put her down drowsy so she could sort out the self-soothing from the get- go. It worked like a charm. No CIO and slept through the night at 4 months.

@maybebaby: Yes! We are a couple of the lucky few. Tonight I just put Xander down to bed, wide awake as usual, and he just squirmed in his crib, did a 180, and finally passed out. :P I hope your baby continues to be as easy as mine!

@maybebaby: Xander was the same way! I'd just put him in his swing or his bassinet and he'd just fall asleep on his own! I was always wondering if it was the right thing to do because you hear so many stories about babies needing help falling asleep, but mine never did! Continue doing this and he might never need help falling asleep. Xander is almost 4 months and still can fall asleep on his own, though sometimes needs help for nap time now.

Well, sounds like I should enjoy this while it lasts! Glad to hear--I was worried I should be taking his wide-eyed time to interact with him--we get plenty of talk, play, hold, sing time in, so glad I can let him hang by himself calmly before drifting off.

If he's happy run with it! That's what I just had to do with A because at 9weeks she decided her bedtime was 9/9:30pm and she was going to start sleeping between 7 and 9 hours STTN. After putting herself to sleep.
So, trust me, if they want to do it let them!

If he is happy, definitely let it happen! I will say.. we thought we were sleep rockstars when our LO did this in the beginning.. and it wore off and he needed to be rocked months 2-4:) Hopefully your LO continues to do it though!

That sounds heavenly! LO is 17 days old and will only be put down if she is sound asleep. The exception sometimes is the swing. She will hang in there awake, and sometimes it puts her to sleep.

I don't see anything wrong with that. If he's content to hang out for a little while before drifting off to sleep, then great! My LO was the same way at that age.

I don't think so, that sounds great! I for sure wouldn't leave him to cry at that age, but if he was perfectly content to lay there and drift off on his own then I would say it's a good habit to get into. Most likely he won't always be agreeable to being put down awake, but when he is I don't see any harm in it.

I don't think so at all! Consider yourself lucky!! R is 3 months and still won't go to sleep on her own. Has to be held or in the car seat.

Maybe you got lucky and have an easy baby!!

Baby is 15 days old and DH is back to work. I am still figuring out our loose routine. This am we nursed, I changed him, he sat in the bouncer while I are breakfast and we chatted and listened to music. I gave him a small bottle of formula and the. Changed him again. He was showing sleepy signs, so I swaddled him and put him in the RnP. On the video monitor he looked wide awake but not fussing or crying for about ten minutes and is now soundly sleeping. Is 15 days too young to put him down to nap awake? If he'd been crying or fussy I would have hung out with him until he was settled. Gah I feel like I am questioning everything I do now that I'm on my own!
