I think it sounds good. I am breaking a cardinal nap rule too, I often nurse my LO to sleep, because otherwise he wouldn't sleep on his own.

I hope the routine continues working for you!

It sounds like you're doing great but why not try to put her down drowsy but awake? If it doesn't work, then I would continue to rock her and then just keep trying the drowsy but awake thing. And then there will be a day when it actually does work. That is what happened with my LO and I did not need to sleep train her.

the rocking may continue to work, but often what happens as your baby gets older and more aware is it takes longer and longer to rock them, and it may even stop working.

but since your baby is already sleeping through the night, it sounds like you may have a naturally good sleeper on your hands!

i would give it a try putting her in drowsy but awake... she may surprise you, and her naps might improve!

Thanks for the input! It seems wrong to let her CIO when she actually sleeps really well, for the most part, but she does need to learn to put herself to sleep somehow.
It's so hard to know what's right, as a first time mom!

That's exactly what we did. We would rock him/shush him until he got veeeerrry sleepy and then we laid him down on his crib. He would wake up due to separation from us but then after a few minutes of shushing/patting, he would fall back asleep. LO is an excellent napper and sleeper now. So we're planning on doing the exact same thing with baby #2 and hope for the best. I think as long as they're not fully asleep every time by your constant rocking, you're totally fine!

I think you're doing a GREAT job and actually setting your baby up for some good sleep habits. :)

Honestly sounds like she's doing great!! We sleep trained at 4 months when he started sleeping thru the night and nap trained a month later. I would sometimes rock him for 10 mins. If you feel she's ready you could start teaching her how to fall asleep on her own.

Baby Z is 13.5 weeks old and has been sleeping through the night for about a month now--thank goodness! She's been a good little sleeper for the most part. She's not much of a napper, but we manage to get at least 2 hours throughout the day and combined with her 10-12 hr stretches at night, she gets her recommended 14 hrs/day.

So, I know you're not supposed to rock a baby to sleep, but on a normal day, it takes less than 5 minutes of rocking with a pacifer and white noise to get her down. I keep wavering between whether we should just put her in the crib awake and go with some formal nap/sleep training or continue our seemingly easy rocking routine. When we put her in the crib, she wakes up due to the separation from us, but I stick the pacifier in her mouth, maybe shush her for a second and she's out for a 45 min nap or for the night.

Would love to know others thoughts on this routine and whether I'm setting myself up for some awful sleep patterns int he months to come.

Thanks, as always!
