@lioneyes: @yoursilverlining: Yep, this. Charge more, less go, and then they can say, well, the national parks really aren't that popular, so let's close some or not have them as big. So damn infuriating.

@yoursilverlining TOTALLY WHAT I AM THINKING TOO! like the huge price increase might drive down attendance, and then they can say, well 1/2 as many people visited last year so we should probably start drilling for oil in 1/2 of it.

I'm guessing these price hikes are pretext for opening the parks to resource exploitation in order to fund their upkeep.

I read about this yesterday and it makes me sad. I love the parks and I want everyone to be able to access them. On the other hand, maintaining roads, bridges, visitor centers, and trails all cost money. I would rather the parks charge more then go into disrepair. Perhaps it would be better to not make the price increase so drastic though- this seems pretty steep. I really wish the government would fund the parks more so they did not have to increase prices like this.

We go to Yosemite every year by camping. It gets terribly overrun by day trippers driving in but I am loathe to suggest such a high increase as it makes it way less affordable for the every day person/low income family. I wish they would fix the parking issue and bus people in from outside the parks instead of increasing fees this much.

Reserving National Parks for those who can afford to shell out that much money is terrible public policy. Hey poor/low-income people -- no National Parks for you! National Parks are not businesses and they are not Disneyland. It's the responsibility of the federal government to maintain them. Any funding shortage is created by the administration - it doesn't have to be this way.

With the proposed budget cuts to the Interior Dept I think these increases are necessary.

There's a proposal to make a peak season pricing for the top 17 national parks. It would increase the per person daily fee from $10 to $30 and per vehicle daily fee from $25 to $70.

The comment period is open so hopefully people comment, it just seems like those prices will prevent access to what are supposed to be our parks.
