I went into labor at 37 weeks with DS2. My OB was okay with using a foley bulb and it really helped me progress! After the bulb did it's job, she started me on a low dose of pit because my body takes forever to dilate.

DS1 was a failed induction at 40 weeks.

:goodluck:

@Yorkiemama2: @IRunForFun: @misolee: These are really reassuring, thank you!

I had a "failed" induction in that I never made it past 3cm and never had any measurable contractions -- just didn't respond to the pitocin. They thought it was maybe a faulty bag and tried a couple of times but nothing ever happened. Hoping #2 is different and I actually go into labor!

I had a failed induction at 41+ 1 (well...is it a failure if I progressed to 9cm and stalled?) and ended up with csec. My recovery was easy so I was still debating what to do with my second when I went into spontaneous labor at 38 weeks. Like seriously spontaneous. I actually had a 38 week appt that day and my doctor told me I was barely dilated and that it will much longer. I came home disappointed and cleaned my toilets and sinks. LO2 was born a couple hours later

It can happen! I had a doula client who had a failed induction at 41+3, tried everything and never made it past 4 cm. Next baby went into spontaneous labor at 40+5 and had an amazing VBAC!

It's definitely possible! I had a 2 day long failed induction that ended in a c section at 41+2. No dilation or any signs of impending labor when they induced me. I was determined to do everything I could to have a vbac the second time since the c section recovery was very hard on me. I drank tons of raspberry leaf tea towards the end of my pregnancy (supposed to help strengthen your uterus), constantly sat on my birthing ball, and ate 6 dates every day during the last trimester (women who eat dates require less inductions and interventions during labor). I also took evening primrose oil capsules towards the end or my pregnancy.

I have no idea if these things actually helped or if I would have gone into labor naturally anyway but I went into labor at 39+4 at 6am and had an uncomplicated and unmedicated vbac (labor went too fast for an epidural!). Baby was born by 1pm! Good luck!

@NorCalWayfarer: I was induced with pitocin and it failed. I also ended up having a c-section. My doctor told me that every pregnancy is different so just because it happened last time doesnt mean it will happen again. Although I have been reading up a lot on VBACs I am planning a c-section but my doctor told me its very possible I can go into labor before then since i am scheduling it the day of or after my due date.

@ShootingStar: Gotcha. Good luck! OB said I could schedule as soon as 39 weeks but I'll probably wait until 41 weeks to see if anything happens naturally before then (41w4d is the latest they'll let me go).

@NorCalWayfarer: 39 weeks. I am diabetic, so they do it before my due date.

@ShootingStar: OB said they would do non-chemical induction such as bulb catheter, stripping membranes and breaking water (although mine broke on it's own last time). Good luck with the c-section! When did you schedule it for (how many weeks)?

I don't exactly have experience with this, but have you talked to your doctor about any other way to do an induction? I've heard some 2nd time moms here say the OB only broke their water and that got things going. It may depend on what lengths you want to go to in order to avoid a c-section.

I had a failed induction with my first (didn't dilate past 4cm) and had a c-section. I'm due in just a few weeks and I have no desire to try labor again and I've opted for a scheduled c-section.

Did anyone have a non-induced delivery with baby #2 (or #3+) after a failed induction with #1? My water broke at 41 weeks with baby #1 and I was given pitocin but never had contractions so baby was born via unscheduled c-section. Doctors won't do chemical induction with baby #2 (doesn't really matter since I didn't respond to pitocin with baby #1 anyways). I'm wondering if there's any chance that I'll go into labor on my own or if I should just plan on the c-section? Thanks for any advice/personal stories!

(ETA I think the term I should be using is "spontaneous labor"??)
