I had some terrible sinus pressure with this pregnancy and I've used the neti pot to help. I always usually use slightly warmed water with the little packets they give you (always bottled, or boiled and cooled tap water). You don't want the water to be hot though, just warm. And these sinus pressure points:

http://www.sinuspressurepoints.com/pressure-point-locations/facial-pressure-points

The neti pot and pressure points won't be as relieving as taking medicine but they're better than nothing. Also, I definitely prefer using the pot to the sprays, but I can see it being a personal preference thing. It's definitely a little weird the first time you do it.

@2PeasinaPod: I was afraid of the neti pot as well and only gave in to trying it when I was pregnant and couldn't take anything stronger than Tylenol. It really isn't that bad and it does work! I hope you get some relief, sinus pressure and headaches are the worst!

Perfect warning. Right now, it's not so much the congestion as it is the pressure.

just to warn you, if you're really congested, the water might come out of your mouth instead of the other nostril. But sometimes I find that's helpful if my throat hurts. But it can be rather gross and surprising.

@2PeasinaPod: If you're scared of it, I would buy the little packets that are premade to rinse. They have the right ingredients to make it so that it wouldn't sting like plain salt water can.

And I prefer the squeeze bottle to the pot you have to tilt. I have this (and it came with packets to add to the water). I just use warm tap water to mix. I got it at Target in the pharmacy.

Thank you ladies! I haven't tried the neti pot, and am a little afraid to. Is it like getting water up your nose in a pool?? Just want to fully prepare myself as I'm willing to try anything at this point. I'm just a little wary of how the neti pot works.

Warm showers definitely help, but also try putting a warm compress on the area where you feel pressure, and saline nose drops a couple of times a day.

And if all else fails, this one might sound crazy but it cured me when nothing else worked... get some sushi (the cooked kind), put all the wasabi you can handle on them, and eat the whole roll. That loosens congestion like nothing else! My sinuses got stuffed up so bad recently that I couldn't breathe out of one nostril or hear out of one ear. I couldn't go to my doctor because it was a holiday weekend, but three days of trying all of these things finally helped.

I just got over an epic third trimester cold. I found neti pot after a hot shower to be most effective. It was the only way I could get started in the morning. Get better quickly!

in addition to a sinus rinse, you could also try placing a warm compress (I use a rice bag) on your forehead where the pressure is (just make sure not to place it over your eyes. it can make the eye crud worse). It can help the stuff drain out better.

I used to have chronic sinus infections and this is what my ENT Doctor told me to do. Works like a charm every time:

Small bottle of water, 1 tbsp kosher salt & 1 tbsp baking soda. Warm the mixture up in the microwave and then pipette it into your nostrils until your congestion is cleared. You may have to do this a few times each day until it passes on its own. This just relieves the congestion and sinus pressure, while soothing your sinus membranes. Very similar to a neti pot from what I understand.

I've had a super nasty cold for the last week and a half. It started in my nose, moved to my throat, then chest. Then it developed into double pink eye (joy!). I've been avoiding taking any medications this pregnancy except for 2 Tylenol that I took last Saturday when I had a fever I couldn't get rid of.

Today's ailment is intense sinus pressure. Anyone have any natural remedies to help? I'm going to take a hot shower in a bit to see if the steam helps at all, but aside from that, does anyone have any other suggestions?
