Some of you may be describing this:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dysphoric_milk_ejection_reflex

We hear so much about the blissful, lovely feeling that women feel when they're nursing - and almost never about negative things. I think they're far more common than people report.

I never felt any nausea, but like @FutureMrsMcK: I felt very thirsty and a weird sensation I can't really describe. Almost like an overwhelming sense of sadness or loss? It was a really sad, unpleasant feeling that would last just a few seconds after I let down.

I had this. At 19 months it's gone, mostly, but I still don't feel like eating while nursing. I also felt slightly nauseous all through my pregnancy.

Yes, I get very slightly nauseous just before let down. I also completely lose my appetite (unfortunately it comes right back though!). It helps when I drink water. I've been breastfeeding for nearly 6 months now and still have this same sensation before let down - it isn't so bad that it makes me want to stop, though.

That sounds tough! I get super thirsty and hungry while pumping, so I always keep snacks nearby.

Subscribing because I'm interested in the responses! This is one of the many things that made me uncomfortable when I was bf'ing...

I had this too. I don't really get it now but do find that breastfeeding suppresses my appetite. I can be famished then feed her and suddenly I don't want food at all. I should pop her on more often when I'm tempted towards chips :)

It wasn't quite nausea but I always had a wave of...something, along with intense, near painful thirst whenever I let-down. I did the same as @Bao: , drank cold water and sometimes snacked on something. For me it started easing after 2 months and was mostly gone by 3, although I can still definitely feel it when I let-down.

I had this too, it was always a sign that my let down was about to happen. It was particularly strong in the early months and subsided. I never really did anything about it, but it definitely was an uncomfortable side effect of bf (among many others)!

I had this way back when LO was just born to about 2 months old, it was the weirdest thing! I noticed drinking cold water while nursing and sometimes eating a snack really helped, it did eventually go away though.

I've been noticing lately that everytime I breastfeed LO, I get a wave of nausea. It lasts for a couple of minutes, followed by my feeling a little faint. By the time she's done, I'm back to feeling normal.

Anyone else experience this? Anyone know what (if anything) I can do about it?
