At the hospital they gave it to him with the "mouth" attachment and just held it by his face while he sat. At home he tries to eat the mask and hates it. I am going to try giving him a teething toy and then putting the mask around it.<br /> Also how long does it run? Sorry for all the errors in the last post. I was trying to get it out to you when LO was around so I couldn't proofread on the ipad. But I know how desperate I felt in the situation when i was learning and needed tips. I never tried the stuffed animal, singing or facing me. Those sound like great ideas. LO did act out her 'trauma' by doing nebulizer treatments on her doll around your LOs age. My LO is only 15 mo.. We have to hold the mask over his face, and puff the inhaler. Then wait till he breathes 6 times. Then repeat after 1 min. Also put water in the medicine cup and let her put the mask on a stuffed animal and you so she sees it isn't scary. And, try putting a blanket or pillow over the machine so it's not so loud. Finally, bribe. We last did treatments for two weeks straight when LO was about 4 months. I found it easiest to rock her during treatments. And if she was particularly struggle I'd sing directly into her ear. We sang many versus of Old McDonald during these treatments. But it seemed to at least keep her distracted enough to get through the treatments. I wedge her arm between my elbow bc if not shell pull the tube.Sometimes I have to put mask, on with no machine/loud noise on to get her used to just the feel of the mask. DH turn on machine when it is over her face...if DH is there because somehow I feel the steam bothers her eyes. If I think of anything else, I'll post again.</p> <p>She usually cries for a few mins. Sometimes the whole time. Sometimes not at all. It depends. Her dr says her pneumonia has improved but she still needs about 3 nebulizer treatments a day with albuterol solution.</p> <p>How did you get your baby to stay still or calm? We have tried distracting her with TV and Youtube videos, doing it while she is sleeping (it just wakes her up and makes her hysterical), and strapping her into the high chair and nothing seems to work well. :-( </p>
