Thanks everyone!! I'll check in on Wednesday and see if they have the Freestyle available; if not I'll go for the other Medela.

I had the Ameda Purely Yours. I feel it didnt have great suction after a while. I felt the freestyle emptied a little better.

@sloaneandpuffy: Haha-- I think retail the price difference is probably not so much, it's just when you are getting it through the insurance that they want to give you the more basic one. For me it was a $100 upcharge for the PISA, but that included not only the stylish bag, but the battery pack and the cooler pack with the specially shaped ice pack. So those seem like pretty big conveniences, but since I'm not going back to work and have my sister's to use on the occasions where I'll need to pump without an outlet, I went with the no extra charge version.

@Foodnerd81: now wondering how much I overpaid for this super stylish bag, ugh. It's quite the fashion statement with its black synthetic material and (now dirty) dirty off-yellow trim. LOL.

I was renting a Medela Symphony while waiting for my insurance policy to renew so I'd be eligible. I spent 6 months using the Symphony and have now had my Medela Personal Double Pump for a few weeks and I love it. Way better than the Symphony - which is hospital grade!

I was told the same thing about the Medela Advanced double pump-- same thing as the PISA, like the exact same motor, but without the "stylish" carrying bag and a different or no cooler pack. I believe it also doesn't have a battery pack, which the PISA does. That's the one I'm getting through my insurance. but my sister loaned me her PISA that I can use if I ever need to pump away from an outlet.

ETA: I've heard anecdotally that the Freestyle suction isn't as strong as the other Medela one, but I don't know anyone personally who said that, just things I read around the internet. But people on here seem to love it. It was a $200 upcharge for me, so I went with the $0 upcharge for the regular one.

I love my freestyle. I was pretty frugal with all baby gear but I'm so glad that I splurged and got the freestyle.

I have #1 and #3 and I much prefer the Freestyle. The portability was amazing. I could just plop it in my bathrobe, refill my coffee, etc...it was small, discreet...and it worked great.

Medela has great customer service. I dropped my Freestyle and the back cover broke. It worked fine and i was going to duct tape it back together, but they sent me a brand new unit because they didn't have any replacement covers

I have your #1 option and I like it. There's an insulated compartment...is that different from a cooler? I know nothing about the PIS for comparison.

Now that my insurance plan has finally rolled over, I've started calling various durable medical suppliers to find out what my options are for my insurance-supplied breast pump. It looks like I have three basic options:

1. Medela Advanced Personal Double Pump. I know nothing about this one, but the person I spoke to on the phone at one of the suppliers seemed pretty knowledgeable, and she said it was the same as the PIS except with a different bag and minus a cooler. Their website says, "Includes (4) 150ml breastmilk bottles and solid lids, double pumping kit with (2) 24mm breastshields, (1) A/C adaptor, and (3) ice packs."

2. Ameda Purely Yours. This was the one my LC recommended. I like the fact that the tubes aren't likely to get milk in them, but am concerned by some of the recent comments on Amazon.com about suction failing. May or may not be deluxe, some of the sites only offer the basic version.

3. Medela Freestyle. Apparently there's a big backorder for these, so she said I could try calling back on Wednesday after they get their shipment in and see if there's any remaining after they fill their backorders. I'm not desperate to get the Freestyle or anything, it was just the most recognizable of the options she gave me. I will be bringing this back and forth to work every day, so the portability feature is nice. She said it would be at least a $125 upcharge.

Thoughts/opinions are greatly appreciated :). Thanks!
