I used a pegboard over the changing table (I use an old Ikea dresser). I'm not sure if hanging something like this would be an issue but it does give you a lot of good storage.

@ocean81: We ended up getting the Land of Nod Toby glider - it's dimensions are 30" x 35" x 37" (and I waited until it was on sale.) I loooove it - my son is 17 months now and we still use it every night to read bedtime stories before bed.

ETA: Annnd adding a photo of the glider featuring my favorite disgruntled 1 month old... I don't think this one made the Facebook cut, haha.

@oliviaoblivia: Thanks! Ours is about the same size... maybe 9X9. I think I just get nervous when I see all the photos of everyone's HUGE nurseries and how much stuff they seem to have, but you're right that they don't need much and I can definitely shove stuff in other places if I need to. It's easy to get carried away...

Our nursery is 8x8. We have a crib/dresser/changing table combo, a glider, and a small bookcase. No closet.
They don't really need much in their rooms.

Our first nursery was a bit bigger (10x10) we had the same crib and a day bed that had drawers underneath. We put a small chest in the closet and installed a second rod and some shelving.

@raspberries: Love this!
@cam: That is so smart
@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Love that idea... I think it might be a bit too wide for the wall I want to use it on though
@mrsrain: I bought the Ikea crib with drawers on the bottom so that should help. The plan is definitely also to do changing table on top of dresser but I'm having so much trouble finding a dresser the right size and height. I wanted the 3-drawer Hemnes but they've been recalled and now I'm not sure what to do!

We put a closet organizer in that has lots of shelves and also added a hanging fabric shelf for extra compartments. We also have a changing table that is actually a dresser with a changing pad on top. If there is space under your crib you can get an under-crib storage organizer.

@cam: cool closet system

LO's initial room was going to be small. I planned to use the Kallax 8 cubby shelf as a dresser/ changing table and "stuff" storage. Now, we don't have this set up, but four months into this baby thing and that would have been totally doable in terms of what we need handy. A bin or two for current clothes, a bin for changing supplies and diapers, a bin or two for swaddling blankets and burp cloths and then fill up the rest of the cubbies as needed- books/ toys/ more "closet" stuff.

We have a smallish apartment and our girls will be sharing a room. We have a tall bookcase and a craft tower in our closet that is doubling as a dresser for baby #2. I keep books on the bottom shelves and then I have baskets for socks, undies, hats, etc. on the top drawers. Our older daughter uses the changing table as a dresser and I keep the diapers/ wipes in the top drawer. I try to maximize all the vertical space so we can have some room to play on the floor in their room.

We have a tiiiiny nursery - the only furniture we have in it is the crib and the rocking chair. Our closet looks like @avivoca: 's - we use bins under the hanging clothes to store pants, socks, shoes, extra diapers, wipes, etc. One thing that has saved tons of space is that we use an over-the-crib changer - I attached a picture here.

Our nursery is very small but honestly we haven't found that we need much space at all for DD's stuff. We don't even have a dresser, just a changing table, glider, crib, end table, and walk-in closet. I have two hanging organizers in the closet, one of which holds her current clothes (the ones that don't go on hangers) and the other one holds stuff in larger sizes she has yet to grow into. I have a bag on the floor that I use to toss too-small stuff into, and her little clothes hamper. There are some little baskets on the shelves under her changing table, which are filled with cloth diapers, cloth wipes, a few blankets and cloth bibs, etc. That's about it. Her toys are all in her "yes" space in the living room, also organized into baskets.

@TapDancer: Now I'm having major closet envy, that closet is HUGE! I just did some measuring and don't think anything like that will really work if I also have a hanging shelf clothes storage thing. Probably what's best/cheapest is just having some storage bins on the bottom without being attached to any unit. I love the organization of that closet though!

@Goldengirl: Yes.. I believe other places now have their own versions too like Target, etc.

I also used a diaper caddy next to the changing pad to store all the diaper essentials so I could easily take it and use it elsewhere.

We added this to our tiny nursery closet (+ soft bins) and it has helped increase storage space tremendously. They have it at IKEA, but even that was too large for our space -- the one from Target is a bit smaller. Definitely agree about the hanging storage organizer from IKEA that you mentioned -- great for diapers, clothes, shoes, etc.

@Goldengirl: You could do that, or you could just remove the screws and patch the holes. Could you talk with your landlord about adding shelves? I've never added anything to a rental, but most people seemed okay with putting holes in the walls. These are all in studs too, so if I need to remove them when we sell, I'll just patch the holes and repaint.

@avivoca: You're so handy! That seems really smart. I forgot to mention though that we rent/don't own our place so anything I do should be fairly impermanent. Maybe I could find some kind of small shelf unit to just slip in there.

Here are the shelves I built. It cost me maybe $30 in lumber.

@Goldengirl: I added shelves to my closet! My girls are sharing a room that is 10x11, so pretty tiny with a twin bed, a crib, a dresser, and a bookshelf in it. Let me see if I have the pics on my phone, but it's really helped clean up the space. I also store things under the crib and bed, and I'm looking for a basket or a box that I can slide under the dresser.
