We never had luck with the insert - we used ther Bjorn or moby wrap when she was itty bitty and then around 4 months switched to the Ergo without an insert. Baby H has always been on the tall side, so that was around when her legs seemed long enough to be comfortable in the Ergo. She didn't love the position at first, though! Took a few trips before she was content in the Ergo and now she loves it, as do I! It's the best carrier.

I think it was around 3 months I just stopped using the insert. her head hit the back of the insert and she could hold it up pretty well.

my LO hated the insert. :( I was never able to get him to sit comfortably in it, without him rubbing his face into my chest screaming... I bought the Baby Bjorn and used that for a while. Now we use the Ergo and he LOVES it :) which is awesome, because I love it, too

I agree with the method Sweetkate said above.

You can also try the insert without the pillow or just use the pillow or a blanket rolled up under his bottom.

The easiest way for me to get him in the insert was to lay the insert on the bed (or seat of the car if we were out) and put him on it then pick both of them up. Make sure his butt is on the pillow part and his legs in front of it. I always had to adjust his legs once he was buckled in. They should resemble a frog when all is said and done. The first month or so DS would fight and wiggle for a few minutes but then would calm down and usually fall asleep.

My LO always HATED the insert. She liked having her legs out, so we just used a RS until she was big enough. I have a friend that puts her LO in sideways using the insert, like in this video: http://baby-carrier.blogspot.com/2009/11/new-ergo-infant-insert-heart-2-heart.html

Ignore the cheesy music :)

I have this same problem (DS is 10w but 24 3/4"), unfortunately no good advice. We just used it without the insert because it was only going to be for a short time; he seemed to like it since he fell right to sleep.

We have the old infant insert and we used it to position LMW in a sitting position inside the Ergo, but she's tall too, and didn't like it that much. Once she was about 3 months old I felt comfortable using it with her legs sticking out on either side (since we didn't use it all that often) and she liked that much better. Now that's the way we use it and she falls asleep almost every time. Her head is kind of TOO low now (her face hits the straps) but she's sleeping in it so I won't ask questions!!

If you think he is too tall you can take out the pillow thats inside the insert. I really didnt like the insert and I just waited for LO to be older to use it without the insert.

Last week, I tried to get DS into the infant insert by myself, and it was a disaster. His head was way too high and he was trying to kick his way out.

This weekend, DH helped me. It was still a disaster. We were able to get his head lower, but not really to a level where I was comfortable keeping both hands off of him. We still had an issue with the legs. They are too long to sit inside the insert, but he tries to kick or stand up if they are out.

Is it possible for a baby to be too tall for the infant insert? DS is two months old. I tried to measure his height over the weekend, and it is at least 23 inches. Is there a trick to getting your LO to stop kicking? He is fine when he's being held in our arms, but as soon as we put him in a carrier, he goes wild.
