We have a gas stove in the living room that we don't use. It's not easily blocked off by a baby gate, so instead we put DD's giant teddy bear (it's like 3 feet tall) in front of it. It's too big and heavy for her to move by herself, and "Daddy Bear" keeps her from being able to access the stove (although the pilot light is turned off, I still worry about it). Maybe a solution?

In my parents' house, the front door leads to 6 steps that bring you up to the main level of the house. There is a wall on one side and a wrought iron railing on the other. The railing is not the most secure and a standard baby gate won't fit there.

Has anyone else found a solution for putting up a gate in a similar area? We aren't there often enough for my dad to replace the railing or for him to want to install something more permanent.
