I would pronounce it "AY-mo-ree"...and I totally thought polyamory and amorous when I first saw it, too. I also thought it was made up but it's actually all over a suburb of Boston (Brookline, there's an Amory Playground and an Amory St, maybe other stuff too). Honestly, I'm not loving the name (though I like Alan) but you guys like it, that's what's important.

I like it, but I think it would depend on how it sounds with your last name. I'd pronounce it AYmory.

I have a relative (male) with a different spelling of that name and I've always liked it though it's fairly uncommon in the US, we say it more like ahhh-muh-REE. He does have trouble with Americans pronouncing it, but he's not really one to be bothered by that. I don't mind your combo of first and middle name either.

There's also the spanish name Amaury which is similar.

Personally, I'm not a fan. The name sounds kind of feminine to me and it seems like its kind of ambiguous on how to pronounce the name.

@Mrs. Jacks: I do see what you are saying. If it makes any difference, the middle name will hardly every get used IRL and our last name sounds nothing like the first name. Since my last name is already all over the internet, his name would be

Amory Shef

So, full name would be Amory Alan Shef

I'm not so sure about Amory. What does it mean?

I keep thinking "Amorous" (Definition: showing, feeling, or relating to sexual desire) so that's weirding me out.

I may totally be the ONLY person in the world though that makes that connection, so please ignore me if no one else comes up with that connection upon hearing the name!
