I cut everything into really small bites. I do quarter blueberries. Breakfast is cheerios and cut up fruit. Lunch is a puree. Dinner is some of whatever we are having, or I scrounge around for something. Some favorites include avocado, chicken, sweet potato, squash, sauteed spinach, pizza crust, rice (white and brown). LO is 9.5 months, and has his first two teeth coming in.

I just give DS whatever we're eating given it's not spicy or too salty. I cut it up into small chunks. He seems to grasp it better and can self feed. The sticks are only good if he's eating something that doesn't get soggy from him sucking on it. Otherwise, it sticks to his hands; and he can't place it in his mouth. He gets frustrated. ha

DS definitely gagged quite a few times and it freaks everyone out (me too), but I have to keep calm and remind myself this is totally normal. Gagging is better than choking. He's getting better and better about gagging less now that he has a better handle on eating solids.

My 10 month old eats pretty much anything at this point. We were just on a cruise, and she ate her way through most of the items on the buffet. But day to day, she particularly likes:

Veggies:
Brocoli - steamed, and it has a perfect "handle".
Carrots
Celery with the strings peeled off
cucumber
zucchini
beets
frozen corn
frozen peas
green beans
baby corn
sweet potato "fries"

She doesn't eat a ton of fruit, except pureed, or in a smoothie which she has with me for breakfast. She's not really into sweets so far.

She eats most meats. Today for dinner she had roast beef. I just cut a thick-ish slice, and she gnaws away. She loves chicken and fish, and anything resembling a meat ball with whatever ground beef, chicken or turkey. I sometimes shape her meatballs into more stick like shape. Sometimes cubed up cheese.

I make various "quesadillas". Today she had a whole wheat tortilla spread with some leftover sweet potato puree, filled with leftover brocoli and chicken and a little cheese to stick it together. She'll eat a regular chicken quesadilla too, I just dice up her filling a bit more finely. I cut it into strips for her.

She loves any rice with sauce kind of dishes, but generally I'll at least assist with spoon feeding those. I sometimes make her penne, macaroni or those spirals. Sometimes with sauce from whatever we're having, or if I'm feeling lazy or making a dish just for her I just "sauce" them in some of the pureed veggies we have frozen in ice cube trays.

I make whole wheat waffles, pancakes, or even just store bought bread spread with peanut butter or pureed fruit or veggies. She likes scrambled egg too. And cheerios.

I was also terrified of choking, but I promise you that these kiddos know what they're doing, for the most part. I finally just kind of went for it, and my daughter has been doing great! Some of my (10.5 month old) lady's favorite foods:

Cheese (shredded, cubed, whatever). She enjoys mozzarella, string, and goat, best
Eggs (scrambled or hardboiled)
Watermelon
Blueberries, strawberries, raspberries
Baked sweet potato
Mole russet potato
Pita with hummus
Penne with butternut squash sauce
Beets
Grilled zucchini
Chicken/turkey
Tofu, tempeh
English Muffin with butter

Some of LO's favorites:

Eggs (scrambled or hard boiled and diced
Avocado (diced)
Soft fruits
Sautéed peppers, skins removed until I gained confidence in LO
Ground meat (pieces of meatballs, hamburger, even taco meat)
Shredded beef (cut in pieces, of course)
Cheese cubes
Banana/egg "pancakes" (these freeze and reheat well, FYI)
Peas or beans (cooked until soft), etc, etc...

LO pretty much exclusively feeds herself. We give chunks of most everything since she hasn't quite mastered taking appopriately-sized bites. :-)

ETA: my LO only has 2 bottom teeth, but she "chews" (gums) really well

We gave K small pieces of cooked tofu tonight from our dinner, and it was seriously the most she has EVER eaten. She ate more tofu than me, probably.

She likes macaroni, pears, Breton crackers (they get mushy and dissolve), toaster waffles, puffs.
@DigAPony: Oatmeal fingers! Brilliant!

Here is a list of finger foods we have done so far:
-puffs, mum mums, arrowroot cookies
- soft fruit cut up into fairly small bites like plums, pears, bananas, kiwi, blueberries, mango
- cooked veggie like squash, sweet potato, peas
- pasta with tomato sauce or macaroni and cheese
- sweet potato pancakes
- toast with peanut butter
- shredded cheese or cheese cut up in small bites
- scrambled eggs

We still do some purees but it's mostly mashed and not entirely puréed. When we go out though I usually give her a pouch.

I'm petrified of choking too. When DH isn't around I cut blueberries into quarters, that's how scared I am. However, she has handled everything well. She has 6 teeth but I hear it doesn't matter that much, they use their gums to mash up the food.

My baby's only 7 months but we started doing baby-led weaning a month ago--I'd look into some BLW resources if I were you!

So far what's worked for us is chunks (like chicken strip size, so baby can hold and feed himself) of avocado, chunks of steamed veggies like sweet potato and zucchini, banana, mango, kiwi, prunes...also oatmeal "fingers" are a big hit. I mix 3 T oatmeal with 3 T breast milk or water, let it set til it gets mushy, then spread it out on a little plate and microwave for 2 minutes. Cut it into chunks and give it to baby after it's cooled. Sometimes I press raisins into it before microwaving. Good luck!

I was at the Dr today and while there I mentioned I've been having some serious sleep issues with DD. She said I should try and start feeding her more solids a day. I'm currently feeding lunch and dinner pureed. I'd like to start giving her more finger foods for snacks but I'm at a loss of what to give. I have this huge fear of her choking and I'm trying really hard to become more comfortable with her eating on her own.

Currently when I give finger foods, I'll give strawberries/pears/soft fruits like that cut up into thin strips. I've also made pancakes with strawberries and blueberries cut into strips for her.

What else should I do? Pastas? Cheese? I'm just at a loss for ideas!

Also, do you cut foods into strips or in small chunks? She only has 2 teeth right now. They are either the ones beside the top center ones, or the incisors, it's hard to get a good look at them.

Thank you :)
