Hmmm... If this is your last and final try I would go with the specialist. If it were me, and my last try didn't work I think It would be easier for me to move forward knowing I tried it all and not have any thoughts of "if only .." in my head.

Hoping that is not the case for you and you have success with whoever you choose! I am in the same boat with choosing a doctor right now too. It is a really tough choice when so much is on the line huh?

@spaniellove: I was on prednisone until the transfer only. The first guy didn't say much about it but I'm going to ask to be on it until the beta and the second will do whatever the autoimmune guy says and he says he does it up until the 24 the week of pregnancy if it is indicated.

@brownie: Did they have you on prednisone or any kind of corticosteroid? Or does either of the new REs do anything like that? Some REs put all their patients on prednisone to prevent that kind of reaction during implantation and I remember being on it around transfer (not that it helped me, those embryos were in bad shape). With this pregnancy I happened to be on Benadryl every day for a few weeks in the beginning which probably also helped.

@spaniellove: I reacted to the emla and the progesterone the first fet and had swollen fingers on day 4 with a positive hpt on day 6. So right at implantation.

@swedishfish: this is it for us. One more full cycle and any frozens and we are done. So that isn't a concern for us.

@Mrs.Someone: they aren't inexperienced just not inherently dealing with my kind of concerns. They have worked with the autoimmune doctor in the past. They have good success rates.

@spaniellove: I have been picture perfect until the loss of the baby and the allergic reactions so they will test me more but it probably isn't a normal issue. Possibly chromosomal so we are doing the chromosomal testing at both places. The second wants to push forward and I am the one pushing to wait. The problem with the first is really their schedule which makes it almost impossible for me.

Does either RE have a policy on trying again if, heaven forbid, the cycle fails?

How open is each doctor to going back and looking for non-immune causes? As in doing other testing? I'd want to know that they're looking for everything. I wouldn't be against working with a separate specialist but if the RE in that scenario wanted to plow forward that would be a red flag to me.

I vote for less doctors. You may have to do a few cycles with the inexperienced guy anyway, so it might come out the same (or more expensive). I think it makes more sense to go with the autoimmune guy if this is what he does regularly.

@brownie: It would be interesting to see how they respond to you (are they responsible about getting your results to you on time, etc.) and how they interpret the results.

@Espion: I have met both of them. The first guy routinely does auto immune therapy for fertility from what I can tell. Obviously not as extensively as the auto immune guy but enough to make me happy about it.

Today I did blood draws at the first guy and the auto immune guy for testing. I should have results back in the next 2 to 3 weeks depending on the holidays. The results may have some bearing on the decisions.

Have you met both of them? If you have time, you might want to call and speak with the nurse supervisor (I'm sure both clinics probably have one) about a few concerns (I'm not sure what your experience was prior, but perhaps you could phrase some of that into a few "test questions" to ask without having to go in for an official appointment.)
Does the first doc just have experience with immunology issues or actual training in immunology? Doing something on the side in addition to what they are doing may not constitute sufficient knowledge.

I think we are going to try a full IVF cycle again. So I am shopping for a new doctor (had a terrible experience with the last). So here is where we are at:

Doctor who has experience with auto immune issues, ordered some testing and has experience with CF. BUT he costs about 30K for the cycle and everything we want done. AND he batches so I can't easily make it work around my work schedule.

Or the doctor who just wants to cycle us without any testing, doesn't believe I have an autoimmune issue and since it worked once (and 2 fets failed but they don't consider those) it will work again. IF we go with this doctor we will have an additional auto immune specialist we will be working with. The auto immune specialist MAY be reimbursed by insurance (but may not). The clinic will cost about 20K but that doesn't include the auto immune specialist (and likely IVIg) costs which I am not sure what they will be.

So go with the cheaper cycle and auto immune doctor?
Or the more expensive, difficult to schedule but will treat auto immune issues?
