I'd also recommend trying tummy sleep. We started LO at about 8 weeks for naps on his tummy. I was freaked out at first, so I stayed inhis nursery the first few times. Now he's a pro at it!

My little guy hated the swing too, also woke after movement stopped, and eventually stopped nursing to sleep. So all the tricks didn't work. Luckily, I love babywearing and have gotten pretty good at it. If you have a wrap, those are the most versatile and comfy. It's like an instant nap for my DS!

@Smurfette: I know at least Isaiah is more comfortable that way. I put a pack and play with bassinet on the living room for his naps. I don't want to leave him alone for tummy napping.
I'm sooo glad you got some sleep!!

@Sparks: We have one that goes front to back. I just hate to buy one without knowing if she will like it. Maybe say care will have the side to side so we can see first.

@Mrs. Polish: she slept 9-5 last night. Back down for an hour. Then she slept on DH for two and half hours. I am wondering if it is a belly thing like you said. She was sleeping in the guest room with him. I had him take over this morning to get more sleep. I feel 100 times better now. She just fell asleep now and didn't fight me too much. I might just hold her for a bit and try and put her down. I want her to at least sleep 30 mins since we are having family over for dinner, I don't want her too fussy.

I know you said she doesn't like the swing, my daughter also wasn't a fan. But then I got one that rocked side to side instead of front to back and she loved it and took really long naps in it. Have you tried both kinds? I know for us it made all the difference! Good luck, I've been in this place before too and I know it's so hard. It will get better! I hope today is a better day for you all

@MaisyMay: She will fall asleep in the car seat if the stroller is moving or car running but once you stop or take car seat out of the car she wakes up. We do the 5 S to get her to sleep, staying asleep is the problem once we put her down. She doesn't like the vibrations on the bouncy seat

@Smurfette: I would try the 5 S's and not letting her stay up past the 90 minute mark. If all this still fails, then I would just hold her for naps. I know that's frustrating, but it's just a phase and she'll outgrow it. Don't worry about getting other things done at the moment!

Will she sleep in the carseat? It's not ideal, but maybe you could let her nap in that? Or a vibrating chair? We found our white noise machine wasn't loud enough as it was too far away from LO. When we moved it, that helped her. Do you do the 5 S's? Those help get LO to calm down faster than anything else we do. Once calmed down, sleep becomes more of an option.

we started sleep/nap training at 11 weeks to get LO to fall asleep on his own. i understand you may not feel comfortable with that though, since most people say to wait until they're 4-6 months. but i felt out of options--he wouldn't fall asleep in the carrier, stroller, carseat in a moving car, on top of us...plus when he did fall asleep, he would wake up after 20 or 45 minutes. i was going nuts and becoming the crabbiest person ever, so finally, after weeks of agonizing over it, we decided to CIO. i won't lie and say it worked like magic, but he would usually take 10-15 minutes of crying/fussing before falling asleep, and then if he woke up at the 45-minute mark, he would cry/fuss for about 15 minutes before falling back asleep.

i don't regret my decision because i knew he needed to sleep, but it wasn't easy.

I echo @Mrs. Polish: on tummy naps. I know it goes against everything "they" say, but LO did not nap until we put her on her tummy. I would rock or nurse her to sleep/drowsy and then lay her down. It made me nervous at first, but we have a video monitor and I would go in her room several times to check on her. My sanity was worth it.

have you tried rocking to sleep and then transferring to the swing? i did this with my 1st daughter and it helped her stay asleep once i put her down. also, are you keeping her awake intervals short? babies are harder to put down if they are over tired.

@Smurfette: I just wanted to chime in & say that Sadie had to be rocked or bounced to sleep until just recently. Either she would have to be moving (car, shopping cart, wearing her) or I would have to shush loudly in her ear or put on the white noise while bouncing her like crazy. She always stayed asleep pretty well, but getting her to sleep was like a sport. Then last week out of no where the phase just ended, and she is content to fall asleep just laying on our bed or in her crib... or wherever. I didn't change anything... she just decided. I know it's tough now, but just remind yourself... this won't last forever!!

@Smurfette: I rocked to sleep and put him in the crib, and repeated if he woke up during the transfer. Once he was typically in his crib for all naps, I slowly started putting him down less asleep (very, very slow transition - starting out where his eyes were shut but still had muscle tension) and he slowly was able to settle himself on his own. Another game changer was when he mastered flipping back to belly and became a belly sleeper. Hang in there!

@hilsy85: Nope she hates the swing. Will sit in the bouncer awake but she doesn't like the vibrations. She is one picky little lady!! I don't think the white noise really does help but we have it on at night when we put her down.

@scg00387: Thanks that gives me hope. I want to order that book and give it a try when the time comes. I don't think CIO will work on her. Maybe I will start trying morning naps in the crib and see how it goes. Did you put him down asleep and then put in the crib. When he woke up did you pick him till he fell asleep again?

@Smurfette: Ahh I wish I could tell you a specific week but I think it was around 4.5 months... I would usually try for half the naps to get him to stay asleep in his crib, and the other half I'd just let him sleep on me. If I was really exhausted I'd just let him stay asleep on me and sleep too (during the day). It was just a slow process that he handled the transfer better when I tried each day, and slowly I was able to put him in there for more and more naps until that was where he slept. Around that same time we slowly started sleep training with the no cry methods at night, which slowly trickled down to naps. Now he puts himself to sleep from wide awake and it is so, so freeing. I NEVER thought we'd be where we are, seriously, I know how overwhelming it is in the thick of things! I SAHM but try not to stress too much about daycare since it's out of your hands anyways! From what I've read, most babies surprise their mamas and figure out how to nap at daycare better than at home.

R has taken 4 short naps today, well 3 really. The first I bounced her to sleep, waited 30 mins, and put her in the RnP, woke right up. Fell asleep in the car, once the car stopped, she woke up. Then she fell asleep in DH arms as leaving a friends house, got in the car seat asleep, but woke up as soon as the car stopped when we got home. I put her in the Ktan this evening cause usually that will put her to sleep. She was crying but couldn't keep her eyes open. So sort if napped for 20 mins but cried off and on through her crying.

She is so exhausted so she wouldn't stop crying all night. Now she is so mad she won't even nurse cause we swaddled her. DH is trying to calm her down so she will eat.

I am at my wits end. I don't know what to do. I am sitting here in tears cause I am so sick of fighting with her every single day to sleep. If I want her to get a good nap, I have to hold her the whole time. So then I get nothing done for the day.

At night once she falls asleep we have to hold her for 45 mins minimum before we can put her down. Then we hold our breathe that she stays asleep once we put her down.

I know part of my melt down tonight is cause I am exhausted. Think she is going through a growth spurt so she has been getting up numerous times a night this week. She has been 9 to anywhere between 330 and 530.

She starts day care on the 3rd, so I am hoping they will help. But I don't want to put all my eggs in one basket. She has a stubborn personality. I can see her not napping all day and then I am having to deal with a cranky baby every night by myself. DH starts traveling again this week:( so I will be solo parenting Mon-Thurs

So does anyone have any idea on how to get a 11 week to sleep and stay asleep? I am fine with holding her till she falls asleep till old enough to fully sleep train, but how do we get her to stay asleep and put her down?
