@mrbee: I had a pair of Bose earphones and recently upgraded to their noise canceling earphones (exactly same design as the old pair but includes noise canceling option) because I fly about twice a week and the old pair didn't do well to block outside noise. It's pricey, but a GODSEND on noisy flights or anywhere else. Plus I got a refurbished pair at a cheaper price from a Bose outlet but honestly looked brand new. My husband (who I gave my old pair to, he loves them) and I both run and they stay in very snugly! And they're earphones, not headphones so they take up very little space. You could always try it out in the store or their 30 day trial. They have really good customer service too, can you tell I'm a Bose fan?

@mrbee: I like these over the ear cheapo headphones! http://www.amazon.com/Philips-Flexible-Headphones-SHS3200BK-37/dp/B003CJTR82/ref=sr_1_1?ie=UTF8&qid=1414855695&sr=8-1&keywords=over+the+ear+headphones - I use them for running and they stay put. The ones that just stick in my ears always fall out even the ones with different sizes because my ear holes are so small. Never knew that could be such an issue. :(

We have the Bose noise canceling headphones and they are great. They also make them in earbuds so you can try those. And then you'll have them to traveling. So great on the plane!

i have the beats by dre earbuds and i'm obsessed with them. they work really well at blocking out noise and sometimes i even wear them on the train without music playing. i use them for running and at the gym and they have never fallen out like my old ones. also, they are super easy to untangle because of the way the cords are made!

Mr. Lime bought the Audio Technica ATH- m50x not too long ago. He plugs it into the Roku when I'm sleping so he can watch TV. He plugs into his phone to listen to music. It'It's noise cancelling, so if I need his attention I will flicker the lights or tap him on the shoulder. I cannot hear a thing when he has them secure over his ears either. They are reallycomfortable for extended wear. Here's a pic of the ones he has in caramel & navy.

These aren't fancy and are pretty inexpensive, but I love them. I've had a few pairs (I've lost two to my cats chewing on the cords when I forget to put them away...) and they've always worked well for me. They stay in my ears SO much better than the Apple ones, and they block out sound very well. http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-EX10LP-DBL-Earbud-Headphones/dp/B004UJPP20/ref=sr_1_7?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1414772043&sr=1-7&keywords=sony+earbuds

I'm pretty happy with my skullcandy headphones. I like that the part that goes in your ear is foam, not rubber.

The Bose earbuds are *awesome*. I've tried a bunch and these are the only ones that don't fall out while working out (spinning, running, jogging, etc.). Seriously, they rock.

ETA: I also have the noise-cancelling headphones which are amazing too. Just bulky. I'm not sure how noise-cancelling the earbuds are, but the sound quality is fantastic and they will not fall out.

I've been listening to podcasts and music more lately while picking up the kids, and it's made all that walking around town a lot more fun! But the standard Apple earbuds I have keep falling out my ears, and one of the earbuds also just broke.

I've never really bought headphones before... any suggestions? My main goals are to have headphones that don't fall out, and that block out noise if you're working in a cafe. If that's possible without getting those huge headphones that everyone is wearing, that would be ideal... but open to anything!
