My daughter only naps in her bed hsually. We did the transition at 11 months to be in line with a daycare friend coming to our home, but sometimes they would both nap in the stroller around 9. Nap time used to be 1-3:15 ish for her and bedtime at 8:30. Now nap time is 1:45-4:15 and bedtime is still the same. Some days she absolutely refuses to nap (like the last two days) and she still goes to bed around 8:15. It just means she passes out quicker. She is 23 months.

I know lots of people put their kids to bed early if they don't nap, but I never have. I always worried it would throw off her night sleep and she'd wake up earlier. For a long time she would wake up at 5:30-6:30 so she would often fall asleep in the stroller, but in the last couple of months she has been sleeping until 7 sometimes 8.

Also can you get up at 5am on the days you are working and give her a really active morning so that she can take a short nap before work? Even if it's short she will probably make it until 1pm.

I think LO was around that age when she moved to one nap. It was a process, though, over a couple of months, of her taking a morning nap less and less frequently.

Can you take a smoothie or something that she can drink at church or in the car so she can go down for her nap right away when you get home?

I would do extremely early bedtime. Even now at 2, if my toddler has had a rough day and he seems overtired, I don't hesitate to put him to bed at 6:15-6:30. Some people think that's crazy, but whatever.

When he was switching to 1 nap, our issue was that he would always gladly take an AM nap. He just started fighting the PM nap. So we tried to gradually move up the AM nap. Nap would be at like 11am with a VERY early bedtime. I am a big believer in early bedtime.

For us, even now at 2 years old (just turned 2), 1pm is often just too late for his afternoon nap. If your LO is waking up at 5:30am, making it till 1pm is really really hard.

At daycare, my 2yo naps at 12:30. At home on the weekends, it is 11:45-12, and it used to be like 11:15.

I think it's pretty common when transitioning to one nap that 1) the nap is a bit earlier than it will eventually be...like maybe starting sometime 1130ish or 1230ish for an eventual 1ish nap, and 2) bedtime moves earlier because either that one nap is too early or too short. I think 1ish-3ish is a pretty common time for one-nappers.

Could she eat at the church so you can put her down right away when you get home?

My kids have all transitioned pretty early (by a year, we were skipping the morning nap often/when convenient) and pretty easily, so I don't have a ton of other advice. Good luck!

I put my boys to bed early until they were firmly on one nap at the time I wanted them to sleep (our sweet spot was 1230pm for a long time, now 1pm). When we first started the transition the one nap happened at 1130am and bedtime was 630-7pm. We begin the day at 7-730am. When they went to the desired naptime, we went back to 730pm bedtimes. I absolutely think early bedtimes is the right thing to do to help her catch up on sleep.

As an aside, is there somewhere your daughter can have a PNP set up at church to take a nap? We took our PNP everywhere and could get our boys to nap as long as it was dark and quiet. Even a closet or empty office or corner would be fine!

We have tried at each monthly milestone since 1 yr birthday to transition our almost 15 mo old to one nap and she seems to still need 2. I'm ok with it except I recently took a very part time job at a church(9:30-noon) that she goes with me and it is during her morning nap. She usually naps from 9:15-10:30 and 2:00-3:15/3:30. She does ok until about 11 am but then it gets dicey but not unmanageable. When she only gets an afternoon nap, it's usually around 1pm (we get home at 12:30 and then have lunch) and the length will vary from 1.25 hrs to 2.5 hours.
Some weeks I am needed at work more than others and by mid week she's SUPER cranky after waking from afternoon nap and the evening isn't fun for anyone so I usually start bedtime earlier.
So I guess I'm asking if I'm doing the right thing by an earlier bedtime on days it seems she needs it (and has only had one nap) and do you think this will eventually help her wean off morning naps??
She typically goes to bed by 7pm and wakes between 5/5:30 but we don't get her up until 6:00am. I guess I have high hopes she will eventually transition to a longer afternoon nap and start sleeping in a little longer in the mornings so she won't need that morning nap.
When did your LO transition to just one nap and what time do they nap and what time is their bedtime?

Any tips? Suggestions?

TIA!!
