I agree with a good LC.

With a hands free pumping bra you can feed one one side while you pumo the other - def time saving. You can also be hands free to tend to your baby while you're pumping!

Check out the free breastfeeding webinars at Isis Parenting.

Good Luck!

Hang in there! There were lactation consultants at the hospital that LO was born at that encouraged me to call anytime I had questions. Could you call a LC to get some professional guidance?

I agree with everyone else - pump after daytime feeding sessions would be ideal. If you don't have a hands free pumping bra and extra pump parts, consider buying them (huge time savor and allows you to be hands free while pumping).

Also drink LOTS of water (150 oz+ a day) and eat oatmeal to help increase your supply.

I know its hard, but also try not to stress. You will be okay and LO will be okay. Stress reduces your milk supply and you don't need that right now.

Good luck!

I agree, if you can pump after daytime feedings that would probablyt be ideal. I found my pumping most effective after her morning nursing session, that is when I had the most milk. Do you have a hands free pumping system?

I was attached to the pump
Initially to get my supply up. I'd just pump about an hour after DD last fed. It was a rough few days before my body got
The hint and then I had tons of milk.

I did this for the first three weeks of LOs life (pumped after every single feeding though, not just 3-4).

I'm not an expert, but I'd try to do three pumps behind daytime feedings and only worry about pumping once at night so you can get as much rest as possible during nighttime. I was always advised to do it directly after feeds. It won't look like much, but you are telling your body to keep producing which will help your supply.

I fed my Lo formula almost exclusively for the first 3 days of his life because of his jaundice. I nursed at the hospital when I could but I was so desperate to get him home I gave him what would make him pee and poop a lot (formula!).
Once my milk came in at 3 days pp I pumped and gave him pumped colostrum/milk and supplemented with formula. I gave him bottles first and then nursed him.
Now at 8 weeks pp (tomorrow) I pump and bottle feed during the day and nurse him in the middle of the night when he wakes for his early morning feeding. I also nurse him right before he goes to bed after his bottle. It helps him sleep a nice long stretch (10 hrs last night!). I also nurse first thing in the am when he wakes.

My dd went on a bottle strike around the 2-3 month mark so I'm making sure my son likes bottles so he doesn't do the same thing.

Good luck and hope his jaundice clears up soon!

So we're battling some jaundice, weight loss and diaper issues with Baby B who is 1 week old today. His Dr. wants me to supplement with formula after 3-4 feeds and pump to get my milk up. I have no clue where to start. I feel like i barely have enough time to pee let alone bf AND pump. When's the best time to pump? How often should I try to do it? Any ladies who've been through this and can offer some advice/support I'd really appreciate it.
