I went to the appointment and discussed my concerns with my OB. She suggested that I go ahead with the ultrasound to confirm placement since I hadn't done that yet and run some more bloodwork. (Everything was in the normal range back in September, but one part was almost out of range.) According to her records, I gained 8-9 lbs since it was it was put in. After all of this is done, we'll reevaluate whether I want to keep it or ditch it.

At 4 months i was still taking advil daily and wondering if it had lodged itself somewhere inside me... it was bad, why i stuck with it is still a mystery to me.

i had mine for two years and the week after I had it out was amazing. There were so many little things that had happened while i had it that i didn't even realize. The slight swelling, the slight sadness, the cramping, the spotting. I felt like such a different person.

I noticed a significant improvement to my issues within about a month of having my mirena taken out.

I was experiencing restricted weightless (virtually no change despite significant lifestyle changes and workout plans), decreased libido, mood swings, general body inflammation issues.

This post makes me seriously regret getting mine. I got mine almost two weeks ago and I thought the spotting would be stopping soon but it looks like it last forever for some. I also have just started working out because I felt like my mini pill was causing me to gain weight plus I had a baby 9 months ago, I'm hoping the Mirena doesn't refrain me from losing weight. :crying:

@Adira: I've never had a super high libido, so I don't know if that is affecting me (or if it is, if that really matters all that much), but I do know what you mean about a change in sensitivity. Lately it honestly makes my skin crawl when my hubs touches my boobs.

@tiramisu: I'm two years postpartum  , so that's not the case. But I am the heaviest I've ever been (outside of being pregnant) and I've wondered if that could be doing it. I've gained 15 pounds since the summer (half after weaning and half after Mirena) and went from 155 to 170lbs.

What's frustrating is that I am currently unemployed and was so hoping to use this time to focus on me and get back in shape. Despite getting twice as much exercise and having more time to prepare better meals, my weight hasn't budged.

Hmm.....maybe I'll keep it a bit longer and use today's appointment as a status check with the doctor to discuss my concerns. I really do love the lack of a real period.

The Mirena killed my libido and decreased my sensitivity to sex. My doctor told me to give it at least 6 months before making a decision. I had it removed after a year and my libido and sensitivity came right back.

I've had mine for about 5 months and I'm thinking of getting it removed too. But I'm trying to give it at least 6 months.
Aside from the horrible insertion pain, I had constant spotting/bleeding for the first 2-3 months. Now my periods are like 2 weeks long with lots of spotting days. So annoying! I also had lots of random stomach cramps the first few months but that seems to be subsiding.
I think the worst side effect is my acne is totally acting up and getting progressively worse each month. I didn't think acne was supposed to be a side effect of Mirena, but my face has never been this bad before. I stopped breastfeeding 4 months ago so it could also be that, but I really think it has something to do with the Mirena. The one nice thing is not having to think about birth control.

How far postpartum are you? Could any of the foot tingling be related to that?

I loved mine when I had it but I do think it negatively affected my sex drive. I def felt it increased after I got it removed but we were also starting to TTC baby 2 so I’m really not sure anymore. I will probably get another after this baby is born but jut be more mindful of the drive issue. I love not thinking about BC at all, I never got a period on it (just the initial spotting) and even though it’s hormonal I liked that it was more localized hormones if that makes sense.

I would probably give it another month or 2 before you Decide.

It made me feel crazy. I was sort of detached but also in a terrible snappy mood all the time. No sex drive. Couldn’t drop the weight. I got it six weeks postpartum and took it out when my first was around six months old. I felt better immediately. I didn’t even realize at the time how nuts my thoughts were and how completely not myself I was until I was back to normal after getting it out.

I have the Mirena and love it. I’m 9 months postpartum and my only side effect is just recent light spotting. I think the worst part of Mirena was how painful the insertion was ha. If you’re having foot tingling/numbness I would just see my regular doctor and see if it could be a vitamin deficiency or something else before I got my Mirena removed.

I had mine for 2 years (had it taken out 1.5 yrs ago) and the only negative side effect I *thought* I experienced was mood changes/moodiness. But since having DD2 and getting my natural cycle back, pretty sure I'm that way off the Mirena too

ETA: I did think Mirena was causing me to hang on to some weight, but it didn't start to come off until after my miscarriage several months later. So for me it was unrelated I guess.

At 4 months I’m i was still spotting like crazy. I got it in a couple months post partum so I don’t know what were side effects of mirena and what was post partum. I like it now (2 years later). I love not thinking about it but I still get random spotting more than I would like.

I know adira has hers removed and felt better, hopefully she chimes in.

I'm thinking about getting Mirena in the next few weeks so following this. However, I had a copper IUD a few years back and suffered from near constant yeast infections. They went away immediately after removal. The only reason I'm trying an IUD again is because I have a metal allergy, and wonder if my body was reacting to the copper. Since Mirena is plastic, I'm going to give it a shot.

I've had my Mirena for about four months now and am so torn on whether or not I love it or hate it. I absolutely love having hardly any period (if any at all), but have coincidentally felt like I've aged 30 years in the few months I've had it.

I've gained some weight which I know has a possibility of being related to the Mirena. But I've also have some other unusual changes that started within weeks of getting it (i.e. constant foot pain, tingling, and numbness). The rational part of me doesn't believe this could be related but the non-rationale, Dr. Google part of me makes me wonder sometimes.

Out of frustration one day last week, I made an appointment to have it removed tomorrow, but now I'm starting to rethink that.

So, if you had undesirable side effects, what were they and did they resolve after removal?
