My daughter is doing the exact same thing. She will even ask to go in stores, etc. I've left her in diapers so far and have just been taking her when she asks (at least 2-3 times a day and she goes every time) but I finally broke down and ordered some underwear for her tonight. We will be just going for it as soon as they arrive!

i wish i would have followed her lead when she showed signs earlier and went full force! because then maybe we would't have been potty training for 11 months!

Yay, A!!! That's awesome that she's wanting to go and doing it so well. G is actively starting to want to go in the potty, but it's still hit or miss with us. We're a long way from being really ready, but you gotta start somewhere, right??

I say let her do what she wants. All to the good for you!

We trained early because daycare said she was ready and she showed a lot of signs. She trained quickly (no accidents for a month) but then had many regressions. It was frustrating. I just wanted to go back to diapers but I didn't want to undo everything we had did so I semi - stuck it out and basically hated my life for 3 months. i wish I would have just waited until she was older ... We trained again at 24 months and it was SO much easier . Her language was better and she could do a lot more independently (get on the toilet, pull up her own pants, etc)

That being said, a lot of the girls at our daycare are trained early so it's definitely possible!

@Mrs. Lion: that's a good point about it not being child initiated. We've been completely following her lead! When she showed interest at the very beginning we would ask if she wanted to sit on the potty and if she did we put her on.

@MrsSRS: haha right now she wants to go potty more often than I want to take her! 🙈 When she wants to go peepee at 5:30 we really want to say no. But when we realize she was actually going we started taking her every morning. And daycare is also completely on board with helping us. We basically told them she's been asking to go which is why they've been putting her in the potty. I think I'm going to ask in the morning how often she asks at daycare. There are also kids in her room who are potty trained or in the process which probably helps too.
DD1 wasn't completely self sufficient in going potty by herself at 27 months when she was trained and it was fine. It wasn't a while after that when she started pulling pants back up etc.

I agree with the others - my LO showed signs early and we officially potty trained at 22 months. It went really smoothly and it's been fine for the past 6 months!

I think the negatives tend to be when it isn't child initiated. But she might get frustrated or upset if she's too little to take herself and manage her own clothes and someone isn't taking her when she asks.

I think the negative stories are more associated with forcing them early, but it sounds like you are just following your child. I would try naked from the waist down with a potty close by at all times over a weekend and see what happens. If she isn't ready she will show you! And if she is, no more diapers ftw! ;)

You guys, my 19m is showing all the signs of being ready for potty training. About half the mornings she wakes up dry and will tell us 65% of the mornings that she needs to go pee pee. The other 35% of the time we take her and she will pee pee in the potty. At daycare they will take her if she asks or put her on the potty during diaper change. She pees at least once a day in the potty at daycare. Sunday we were at someone else's house and she told me she had to go potty, and did! Just now, during bedtime she told me she had to go potty and pooped on the toilet! This is probably the 3rd time she's told us she needs to poop and actually does go in the toilet!

I feel like she is so ready and we should be actively taking her more often. She has her 18m appointment in a few days and I'll ask her pediatrician. But I've heard some negative stories about potty training early. Like more accidents in the long run?

Anyone have negative or positive stories to share about potty training early?
