I did, I had a lot of job security though, so I flat out told them that I would return part time with a flexible schedule prior to maternity leave. They hired a full time teacher to cover most days, and I offered to teach 2-3 classes a week and work on projects for the rest of the time. The bulk of my work is during naps or after bedtime, I love it since I'm more productive in the evenings.

I went from salary to hourly, which was great because salary was too many hours unpaid as it was. My insurance is through my husband, so I don't have to worry about how many hours per week it works out to, it varies from 15-30 hours depending what's going on.

I negotiated a part time schedule before I started maternity leave so it was all worked out in my leave paperwork. We agreed that I would take off three months full time and then I would come back to work three days a week for two months before going back to my full time schedule. It was agreed that the two days I would take off would not be paid unless I used PTO. I was able to keep my benefits.

I ultimately ended up taking another month off full time (unpaid) and did part time for two months before deciding to be a sahm

I work four days a week instead of five. Having one extra day with LO makes a huge difference. We scaled back my salary by 20% (ain't gonna lie...that sucked!) but I got to keep all my benefits and vacation days.

Hi there!
I asked for part time work from home when maternity leave was over. My situation was a little different in that if they said no, we were willing to make the cutbacks in order for me to SAHM.

I emailed first, but basically I had a meeting with my boss, and told him that while I valued my work and wished to continue, there were family needs that came first.

As far as pay, I did take a cut. He asked me what I wanted, and I wasn't really prepared....so I said to calculate my hourly rate (based on my full time salaried position) and times it by the number of hours I would be working.

Because I dropped down past 26 hours, I lost my health insurance...this was my companies policy, but I go covered using COBRA.

I did. I was super scared. I did it after 6 weeks of maternity leave. My pay is based on billable hours, so I work 25 hours a week and get paid for that amount by the hour. I was ready to quit if they said no, and I think they knew that, so it did give me some bargaining power. Go for it!

Have you negotiated a flexible schedule or reduced your hours at work? If so, what did you have to concede?

I'm going back to work July 1st and I think my schedule is pretty impossible. I have a five minute window between when daycare opens and when i need to be on the road, and a ten minute cushion for pick up.

I'd like to ask my employer for six or seven hour days in the office with or without making up the remaining hours after LOs bedtime. I have no idea how to broach this subject with the boss. If I ask for shorter hours I assume I would take a pay cut but what amount? I think I'll end up doing the same amount of work regardless of how much time I spend in the office.

I'd love to hear how you've negotiated flexible schedules or if you asked and were denied.
