His own is in immaculate shape, but ours isn't bad. He just has an opinion about everything, recommending that we remove trees and use some type of soil neutralizer and such. Which, if we asked for advice, I would appreciate... but instead it's just pretty annoying. First, I like our shaded backyard. And second, I am pregnant with a 16 month old and two huge dogs. (ETA - that sounds like the most bizarre pregnancy in history! Punctuation is so important. "I am pregnant, with a 16 month old and two huge dogs.") This is as nice as our lawn is ever going to look, buddy ;)</p> <p>@Smurfette: That's true... out of the 30 or so houses in our neighborhood, there are 2 where the lawns are just in terrible shape. I'm not that picky, but the weeds are out of control. I love all our neighbours and we all seem to take care of the front of our houses. Some of the backyards are a different story, including ours, but we all get along great. We do have some issues keeping up the yard, but the neighbors know that we didn't move in very long ago and just had a baby so I hope it doesn't bother them too much. One neighbor told us that some of the bushes always looked bad before we moved in so I think expectations are low anyway. Our neighbors are all friendly and normal so we have no issues yet. </p> <p>At our old place we were definitely the busy bodies! We had these crazy neighbors that lived across the street from us. They were always fighting (fist fights and daily scream sessions) outside the house. Cops were there weekly and sometimes daily. One time I called the cops on them because they stole a package off our front step. We're very friendly with our neighbors, DH especially. He's home during the day with the kids &amp; does all the yard work so he's generally outside quite a bit to talk, etc. we don't have any real gossip, issues so there really isn't anything for our immediate neighbors to be upset about.</p> <p>Eta: now that I think about it, we do have one neighbor that no one seems to be that friendly with b/c they're pretty stuck up...but, it's kinda not a big issue. I do wave to them sometimes just to see if I can get them to wave back though. To the ones on either side of us we're probably the 'problem' because our lawn never looks great - it's not awful, but could definitely use some work. But I'm pregnant and have a one year old, and they both have slightly older kids so I think they remember what those days were like! The people across the street probably think I'm a busybody because their dog (never leashed or in the fenced-in backyard) tried to attack mine and I didn't believe all of their protests about how the dog is usually SO SWEET and that will never happen again, and I'm sure they know it's me that called and complained whenever they were letting their unleashed animals roam around our houses. I was super nice and the lady responded pretty rudely. I am just big about animal safety and would hate if I walked away from an animal that needed my help. I'm too busy to spend all my time outside maintaining the landscaping (read weeds and dead grass), and my husband is deployed overseas so it's all on me. The neighbors to my left don't speak English and the wife gives me death stares every time I'm outside because a different neighbor pulled out a tree that was on our property but she thought was hers. She also squirts any animal that touches her property with the hose or throws rocks and sticks at it (her son was just released from prison too). Our neighbor to the right is a retired school teacher and loves to chat, the other side of us has been vacant for about 8 years and was just purchased. They are trying to clean it up but doing everything wrong ;) I spent 2 hours clearing their blackberries out of my lilac bush last weekend, I need to ask them to pull the roots out because they are on their side of the fence.
