@erinbaderin: yes, yes, yes! I ended up texting the other mom and asking her to remind their kids and it’s been better!

Wow - this blows me away, that she would say he's "only congested but otherwise fine" - he's not otherwise fine, he has a highly contagious illness! It's great that he's feeling good but the level of symptoms he's experiencing is totally irrelevant and he should be staying away from other people.

I agree with the others that there's not much you can do other than maybe texting the other parents and asking them to remind their kids that your kids are not available to play for the next few days so you stop having to be bad cop.

@bakingdoodle: it is such a pain! We have been inside a lot and I have explained why we couldn’t play to my kids and the neighbor kids and they all seem to understand. I hope y’all can stay safe and well this summer!

This whole COVID situation is a whole pain. Everyone has their own level of risk they are willing to take. If it happened to me, I would just deal and play inside and I've told my kids many times why we mask and why we need to be careful and wash our hands. COVID cases are at least 4 times higher than same time last year. I am still trying to avoid it (and trying to keep my family safe too!)

@Jessiemuller88: @agold: Exactly, the difference with the school policy on siblings is that it only stands if the sibling doesn’t have symptoms. He’s congested, so likely has it!

@agold: thank you! We do love it! Yes, we can absolutely keep to ourselves. What makes it tough is that it’s usually an “open door” kind of thing for all our kids. They kind of roam and play in all the yards, so I have already had to tell the kids several times today that we can’t play and they need to go back home. It’s put me in an awkward position, because it obviously hasn’t been communicated amongst the kids that we are unavailable for the next few days. Most of my crew had Covid in January, and I kept my kids inside until we were in the clear and I guess I just expected them to do the same. But I totally I understand what you are saying about siblings, but with her son having congestion, I’d assume he is likely to have Covid too.

Your little neighborhood sounds like a dream! And with 10 acres, can your kids still go outside and just kind of keep to themselves? At this point, my kids' school still lets siblings go even if another in the house has covid. Right or wrong, I don't think its totally out of left field for your neighbor to do this. But it seems like your family can stay on 3.33 acres and the other two can stay on theirs or share or whatever for the next 4 days or whatever the CDC now says to do. Best of luck. This sucks and I hope your kids haven't gotten it. Update please when you get more info!

@Chuckles: @JJ2626: it’s so ridiculous! Even worse, two of her children have already approached my fence this morning asking if we could play! It’s as if she hasn’t even spoken to them about being contagious and respecting my wishes…

Wow, that’s really crazy and messed up. Not much you can do though. You could send them a link your local public health regulations which I’m sure say you have to quarantine when exposed and symptomatic but that depends on whether you are willing to piss them off. I’d have a hard time staying friends after this, honestly! I’m sorry!

Omg, that is ridiculous that everyone would want to risk continued exposure, but I agree with @ElbieKay: . Not much you can do.

You have to let this one go. You can't police other people's behavior on public property. You can, of course, ask their kids to stay off your property and allow your kids to play there.

At least she disclosed it so you can modify your own behavior.

Feeling so frustrated right now. I live in a cove with 3 other families. Between us we have 12 kids and 10 acres, so our kids run free together and play most days. We are the newest family in the cove as we have only lived at our house 9 months. This morning one of the moms group texted the “cove moms” and said she and her daughter tested positive for COVID yesterday but her son is only congested and otherwise fine. She then asked if we minded if he still played outside with our kids. I responded and said I did mind and wanted to avoid exposure at this point, but the other said, “we have likely already been exposed, so no worries if he wants to play!” Now I have to keep my kids inside while they watch everyone else play. I just am blown away by the whole situation. I feel so frustrated and want to let her know, but I also don’t want to damage our relationship since we are neighbors. What would you do? Just deal and stay inside all weekend?
