This happened to me a few weeks ago! I had 5 draws in 3 weeks and my last one was sooo painful. My lower arm/hand were on-and-off numb for about two weeks after.

Just an update in case anyone finds this thread from googling... I went to the doctor this morning and she said they most likely hit either my radial or median nerve, and that it can take a few weeks to fully recover. I'm taking Rx doses of ibuprofen for this week, and if it's still not getting better next week then I'll need to follow up.

thanks you guys! Normally I'd ask my mom for advice, but that will open a big fat can of worms... she doesn't even know we're TTC, let alone going through IF

@Shutterbug: I'd ask the doctor! When I had my IV in the hospital, I had it for almost 5 days (there were some complications post-delivery). I still have a scar where it was and for a while there was a hard lump on top of my hand and I had weird feelings in that arm from it.

I think it's worth bringing up with a doctor, especially if it's not going away. Years ago I had a lumbar puncture that I swore hurt more than it should have, and afterward I ended up with a pain in my hip that a doctor later told me was nerve damage/irritation from the procedure. He compared the nerves to wet spaghetti floating around and usually they're a difficult target to hit but somehow that time they got hit. I hope you have a doctor who takes you seriously and that your arm feels better soon!

I've never heard of this but I would ask the dr if it continues to bug you. Also, for what it's worth, I don't think it was probably her technique (faster should actually hurt less!) but just happened to get a nerve with the angle or place she went in. (I don't draw much blood but I do start a lot of IV's).

I know we've all had our blood drawn a million times, between TTC, IF, pregnancy, etc, so I thought this would be a good place to ask. :)

Last week I had my blood drawn and when she jabbed the needle in (faster/harder than normal, if felt like) I felt this electric shock feeling go from the spot she put the needle all the way down to my finger. I thought it was ok, but then about 3 days later it started hurting when I bent my elbow, and part of my forearm feels numb on and off now. I think she hit a nerve, but I don't know how big a deal to make of this. Will it go away?

Today's my first day working since it started hurting, and my wrist is killing me. Should I tell my doctor? Has this ever happened to anyone?
