Sounds like lateral epicondylitis (aka Tennis Elbow). Ice and NSAIDs will help. You have to let it rest or it'll never get better.

Try some stretches and exercises like these. You should have no pain with them. If you do, stop. http://www.hughston.com/hha/a.seven.htm

I also like the doorway stretch to open up the chest. It helps take pressure of some of the nerves. http://www.kirascurro.com/web/zarif/stretches_pecs-delts.html

@blackbird: yes, I second the ibuprofen. My doctor had me do that as well. Every 4 hours for 2 weeks straight to eliminate inflammation.

I had this in my wrist. It was/is a type of tendonitis. Doctor have me a brace, recommended rest (LOL!), and suggested steroid shot which I declined. Physical therapy would be a better bet, just haven't had time to fit it in!

I'd definitely call your doctor, at least get help identifying positions and motions you could avoid in order to heal. Heat and/or ice might help as well. Feel better!

I would pop some ibuprofen for a week-it takes awhile to decrease inflammation, and ice it when you can

Yep. Sorry. Rest.

Do you have a sling? that may force you to rest it and not use it as your go-to arm.

@mrbee: I'm resting as much as I can, trying to hold her on the other side, etc....but it's my dominant arm, and I only nurse on the right side- so I always hold her in the cradle position on that side.
I guess I just need to work harder on not using it.

I think this is a common injury for moms....i have some kind of nerve or tendon damage inn my shoulder / arm that is causing terrible pain in the outside of my elbow. I'm sure it's from both co-sleeping and the 2 weeks I recently spent holding my daughter for all her naps.
The pain is sharp, shooting, sometimes electric feeling. It happens when I do repetitive motions, like chopping veggies for dinner, and when my arm is in certain positions.

Anyone else experience this? What did you do to help it go away?

We have stopped co sleeping, which definitely helped, but it's kind of hard to do complete "rest."
