Thanks all. I know that I'm looking too much into things (even though I've stayed off of Google about it), but still... neurosurgeon is just a scary word, I think. @PointeShoesTutus: You are not minimizing at all! It's good for me to hear it-turned-out-all-right stories, and not just scary ones. It's just some really, really fast growth which they're worried about. Let's just hope is a familial thing.

You must be so stressed - hang in there! My LO has a huge head (99th percentile, thanks to DH's large noggin') and had to get an ultrasound to make sure everything was okay. I was totally freaking out too, so I can empathize. FX that everything works out!

Sorry you're going through this! I had a big head as a baby (100th percentile at one point) and I was perfectly fine. My mom just says I have a big brain :)

I'm so sorry. That is so scary.

Not trying to minimize but I want to share a couple of stories that worked out just fine in the end.

My brother had a huge, off the charts head. It grew rapidly and not along the curve. The ped sent him for a CT and talked about water on the brain. The pediatric neurologist said the ped was just very, very conservative and cautious. He ended up being just fine. He has a gigantic head even now but he's just fine. Very smart.

My nephew and godson has a huge head. Again off the charts and not following the curve. SIL was worried about CTs. She mentioned the huge heads on her husband's side of the family and the ped calmed down. My nephew is developing normally and is hitting all his milestones. Ped is monitoring but it likely seems that nothing is wrong.

Again, I don't want to minimize. That's scary as hell. But sometimes, things work out just fine.

First off, breathe.

That is a really scary position to be in. However, right now she's healthy and happy and you are a great mom. Worrying really doesn't help the situation at this point. I would not google anything but maybe try to plan some fun activities to stay busy between now and then.

I'm freaking the hell out. I just got back from an appointment for DD. At her 6 month appointment, the doc noted that her head size is rapidly increasing (as in, went from 50th percentile to 90th percentile to 100th percentile in 4 months. We were instructed to come back in 6 weeks (today) for a head check. Her head is STILL rapidly growing (it's not following the curve) and now we have to go in to see the neurosurgeon to possibly have a CT scan. I'm terrified. I know in all likelihood, she's fine and just has a huge head, but I lost one of my friends three months ago to a brain tumor, so it's scaring the bejeesus out of me.

Sorry, just had to get that out. I almost lost it on the phone with the scheduler, and I needed to vent it a bit so I can hold it together the rest of the day.
