@Finfan: You have probably heard this all before but we keep DS downstairs during the day with the lights/tv/dogs and if he naps it is in a moving swing with us right there talking etc. Then around 9/930 pm we have a little routine and I think he is starting to understand that it means something! Haha. That might be in my imagination. But we take him upstairs, feed, swaddle, kiss and down to sleep in the bassinet by our bed in the dark with only a white noise machine. He definitely sleeps in longer stretches overnight (about 4 hours) but it could just be luck and I'm full of it. :P

@winniebee: thanks! She sleeps for a good chunk of time once she goes out (6-7 hours). It just starts way too late at night. I want to get us into a good routine since I go back to work in 3 weeks.

My sister gave us some advice and it seemed to help. T would wake up at night of course but mostly he would go back to sleep after nursing/changing each time.

She said to keep all the lights off and keep the baby in one room. At first we would turn the lights on and take him to his nursery (he was sleeping in a pack n play in our room as a newborn) and then back to our bedroom to nurse and back to sleep. We stopped and only turned on the adjoining bathroom light for a little bit of light and never had any problems.

@Finfan: Good luck! We did something similar - bath, white noise, swaddle, bottle (I started pumping at bedtime to make sure he got a full belly) and bed in his own room. Maybe it was a coincidence but we started getting 4-5 hour stretch instead of 2 hours.

@winniebee: we are starting to try a bedtime routine tonight. Starting simply. I picked 7pm tonight so I can hopefully get her to bed before DD1's bedtime. We did diaper change, pajamas, swaddled, pacifer, and down.

We have been having her fall asleep in the bouncer for now and transferring her to a pack and play in our room. I ordered her a marpac dohm and that should be here Wednesday.

For us, it was having a consistent bedtime routine and bedtime no matter what time he ate or no matter when his last nap ended - we picked 8 pm and worked at that. It was around 8 weeks and that's when he started sleeping at least one long stretch. I never worked on limiting naps because it was around then that he stopped napping so much during the day, anyways. Have you tried a bedtime routine? What's the baby's sleeping arrangements/

I need your best tips! DD2 is 9 weeks old and not falling asleep until 3 am some nights!! DH and I are exhausted. Plus everyone but the baby is sick right now. She gets plenty of sleep during the day. I think I need to shorten her naps but what else can we do?
