Yes to wooden toys! I have a wooden rattle that I can't wait for E to be more interested in.

My favorite things are personalized cotton prefolds for burp cloths (easy to get embroidered and i LOVE them x100) and the A&A blankets. All so very useful.

I loved getting books that were family/childhood favorites of the giver. We even got a high contrast picture book designed for the newborn stage that we could use right away.

I just went to a shower and got my friend all of my favorite things. So I got an organic cotton sleep sack with an easy side zipper and snaps on the top (dwell), a binky clothing attachment and Wee Ones art cards for the changing table area.

@hergreenapples: I would also suggest some of the taggies toys/blankets. Our baby boutique has really nice ones but Target also carries basic ones.

Another vote for some A+A blankets! I don't even use them for swaddling, I just love them for a carseat cover, or a blanket.

Wooden toys are an awesome idea - thank you so much! I saw some super cute ones at the book store recently, so I'll grab a couple board books while I'm there too. I knew HB would have the perfect idea!

I would say really nice wooden toys. I registered for a few of those even though our baby won't be able to use them for a while and I'm really happy that I actually got some of them. I feel like everything is plastic nowadays so it's nice to have something more natural in the house!

I was going to say A&A swaddle blankets-- everyone on here seems to say you can't have too many and it's something you don't always want to buy for yourself. And every baby I know loves crinkly books and cards and toys, plus you can definitely use multiples of something like that. Wooden Melissa and Doug toys are nice too.

And yeah, include a gift receipt!

There was a thread a day or two ago looking for non-registry gift ideas. I think most of the suggestions besides wubbanubs were for an angel dear lovey and a winkel toy.

Aha - I was going to suggest a wubbanub. Hmm, what about something that they can use down the line, like flash cards? I know I would love a gift that doesn't have batteries, lol.

So, I'm clearly suffering from mommy brain, as I have an 8 week old so should know what sorts of things new parents need but, for some reason, I can't come up with a baby gift idea for some friends of ours. I'm soliciting ideas from HB!

These friends are coming for dinner on Friday night and I know they're bringing a gift for our DD, so I want to reciprocate. Their DD is 3 weeks old.

I don't really want to buy clothes, as I'm sure they've received a ton already and we don't have the same taste. They aren't registered anywhere so I have no idea what they want/need. They're kind of hipster-ish and sometimes have pretty strong stances on things, so I don't want to buy anything that has even the potential to be controversial (e.g. I love our Wubbanub, but don't know if they want their DD to take a pacifier or not). My budget is about $50. Any ideas???
