We just have a regular twin for DS and we'll buy a regular twin for DD soon. I'm not factoring in sleepovers at all. Worst case, we have a pull out couch and they can sleep on that (hardwood floors here, so sleeping bags are probably not an option). My older one is 5 and I don't foresee any sleepovers for a long time still.

M has a full sized bed. I've always assumed sleepovers would happen in sleeping bags like when I was a kid.

We usually slept in the living room for sleepovers at my house. Probably to be further from my parents so they could sleep some! I actually did have bunk beds too (did not share a room) but usually we had all my friends sleep over at once so 6-8 girls total.

DD's room has a futon where we all read books together so something like that is always an option also.

Growing up we always just did sleeping bags on the floor. I don't see why kids can't do that? Though now that I think about it, we had carpeted bedrooms and have hardwood now. I plan to just buy what I like and deal with sleepovers down the line. I never slept in a trundle for a sleepover!

both of my kids have full sized beds.
we've had sleepovers and have set up sleeping bags on the floor. we also have 2 guest rooms so I didn't want to do a trundle or bunk beds.

We are buying a new bed (along with other furniture) for DS's room in anticipation of a new baby joining the family in the fall (the old mismatched stuff will be moved to the nursery including his twin bed). DS turns 4 next month so we're not really in the sleepover phase yet and don't expect to be any time particularly soon. However, I want to pick furniture that will grow up with him. For those that have recently purchased bedroom furniture, did you opt for a bed with a trundle for purposes of future sleepovers? Or did you just buy a larger bed that kids could share? Or do you plan on having a blow up bed for when friends come sleep over? I feel like it is silly to be narrowing my search based on whether a bed has a trundle but I really don't want to have to buy furniture again for a long time. Just curious what others have done.

ETA: We have a guest room already and an office with a daybed so there are plenty of other sleeping spaces in the house.
