I have two cameras (not on my phone). A simple point and shoot and a DSLR. The DSLR is mostly used at home because it's pretty bulky, and for special occasions when I want to get good pictures. The point and shoot is for every day use and is always in the diaper bag. I never ever use my phone for a camera, unless the other camera I have is out of battery. I just don't think the photo quality is as good, plus I'm not a big phone person so it would take me a while to figure out how to get my camera on my phone and by that time LO would be done doing whatever I wanted to take a picture of. It's much quicker for me to whip out my camera.

I guess my internal battle will be whether it's worth buying what looks like a $500 camera that I may use only every now and then. I'm sure I would think so if I knew I'd use it more often, I just don't know!

I asked for a DSLR for Christmas. I have a decent digital camera, but I feel like the pictures it takes aren't that much better than my iphone, so I use my iphone for day to day stuff. But I want to be able to take good photos of future LO at home and I just don't think an Iphone will cut it then. For out and about I'm sure I'll still rely on the phone, but for really nice photos I think it will be good to have the DSLR. I feel like the need for a regular point and shoot is declining as phones get better, but there will always be a place for a really nice camera.

For cameras I use my iphone (every day stuff) and then my dslr (for special occasion videos and portraits).

I had always wanted a nice DSLR so when one went on sale at Costco that I loved, DH got it for a birthday/TTC gift (we started right after my b-day!)

I LOVE my camera. It's been really fun to play with and I can't wait until I have a LO to snap nice pics of! Even though MOST will probably come from our phones, I like being able to take good quality pics on my own and not have to hire a photog!

I'm not an expert photographer. I'm not even close. We have a digital that we bought before our honeymoon three years ago. We pretty much never use it, using our iPhones instead as pretty much the go-to camera(s). (We both recently got the iPhone 5.) I said months ago that I wanted to look into a new, decent camera before the baby arrives (due mid-Febrary), so that we could get better-than-iPhone photos. My DH is of the mindset that if the camera isn't on our phones, we won't have it with us all the time anyway, and being able to take pics easily (and share them, of course) is more important than an awesome camera.

So, what do you think? Now that there are people (parents) looking to buy us nice Chanukah presents, should I push on the camera? Will I use it, or will it sit like the digital because my iPhone is pretty much always within arm's reach? Ultimately, does it matter how high quality the photos are, or is quantity, in this case, more important? Insights and opinions?
