@babypugs: Thanks! Yeah I've been hearing that a lot. I would have never even thought of needing an inspector til I saw it online.

@sapphire: Thanks i'll keep that in mind

@Mrs. Lemon-Lime: Thanks Yeah I have heard a lot of simliar stories with Meritage, which has kind of turned me off. Hopefully everything gets resolved with yours

@wheres_c: Thanks, Taylor Morrison is on our list. Their reviews seem mostly positive so we are leaning towards them for now. Is there a reason why they havent just come in and repainted yet?

We built in the south through Taylor Morrison. The buying process was easy. Majority of the warranty issues were resolved quickly (AC, Doors, Etc). We are still waiting for them to drywall and repaint some things at the 1 year mark, but we've been living with them long enough.

A coworker just bought a Meritage home and he's having a bad experience getting his punch list resolved. We bought a Lennar home and it's been 4 days since we submitted our punch list. I followed up with the GC, who is really cool, but stuff needs to be addressed. We had our house inspected prior to moving in and checked for Raydon (really necessary if you have a basement, which we don't).

Yes we bought new construction. We went with a relatively small local family run builder though. We did get a pre-closing inspection with nothing major found but it helped us create a punch list of little things that needed to be done (mostly minor cosmetic issues).

I bought a home from Mungo (very popular in the South) and had a great experience. Some of my neighbors were not so lucky and had several issues with their homes and had trouble with follow up. I would definitely recommend using an inspector!

If your home was a new construction, did you have a good experience with the builder? How was your experience overall and did you pay for inspectors to come in?

We just moved from the northeast to the south and we are looking at different home options and hoping that by the end of the year we can decide on which community and builder we want. I see that some builders such as Meritage have really terrible reviews. Just wondering if any of you have any experience with this. This will be our first house.
