I'm sad. Was there really that much of a need to basically "block" someone you find annoying? I may not like someone's response on a post but I definitely wouldn't say I was annoyed by anything any one person ever posted to the point of not wanting to see any of their stuff. :crying:

@looch: we have gone back and forth on having a placeholder for muted comments! For now, we're trying it without one but may consider adding placeholders at a later point.

@Anagram: yah exactly, the edit profile link will only show muted users if you've muted someone! You can visit someone's profile to mute them…

@mrbee: I might my dumb, but I followed that link and still don't see anything about muting. BUT, if I haven't muted anyone would there be anything there?

So, I checked it out and I have a suggestion, possibly. When you mute someone and they post in a thread, their post should have a placeholder, because it's a bit strange when you're reading and it goes from one poster to another and the muted poster posted and was @replied.

Tested and works for me (minimal testing though).
I doubt I'll use it, just helping out with the testing (I can't help it, it's part of my job ;-) )

What happens if someone I muted "replied" to me in a post? Either one I just commented on or one I started? I imagine that they still won't show up in your view (since that's the point of mute), but will you still get the email notification so that you know they did?
Sorry if you already answered this somewhere else (like the big original thread, I only loosely watched that one).

Hey everyone - as mentioned earlier, we're doing a test run of a new mute feature!

Here's how it works: when you visit someone's profile, you will see a link next to their username that says "(mute)". A quick example:

[attach=1/14/n76n8b.250x87.Picture-8.png]

Once you click it and mute a user, two things will happen:

1. The topics that user has created will disappear from the main boards pages, such as here:

* http://boards.hellobee.com/ - the main boards page
* http://boards.hellobee.com/board/relationship - specific forum pages

2. Also, we were able to make it so that if you mute someone, their comments will also not appear when you visit a thread. For example, if you mute me and then visit this thread, you won't see my comment towards the bottom of the page:
http://boards.hellobee.com/topic/do-you-feel-like-you-understand-montessori

A few notes to keep in mind:

* Anyone can mute anyone else (including me and Bee!), but there's a limit: you can only mute three users at a time. This will help us ease into the feature. You can see who you've muted when you edit your profile here:
http://boards.hellobee.com/profile/edit#mute

* We ran into an issue during testing where if you muted someone but they had started a due date or POAS thread, you couldn't access that thread. To get around this, we built in a failsafe: if a thread is stickied, then it will always appear (even if you muted the OP). If you'd like a thread stickied, just email us at sticky@hellobee.com.

* If you mute someone, the page numbers may be a little funky on threads from time to time For example, if there are 42 comments on a boards thread and you have muted me... well if I made 3 of those comments, then there will be a page 2 link on the page, but when you click on it, there won't be anything on that page.

* Muting doesn't affect search results or profile pages or sidebar modules. Just the main boards page, and specific forum pages.

Feel free to try it out! Please don't mention specific names of anyone you are muting, just out of respect for those users. Here's an old test account you can use to test out the mute/unmute process:
http://boards.hellobee.com/profile/access

Please keep in mind that this is very much an experiment, and that we'll be monitoring how it goes over the next week or so before deciding how to proceed.

Try it out and let us know if you have any questions or bug reports!
