@jaguar thank you for the encouragement!! I'm hoping we can do this one and done haha!!

@ faithfertility had I known what the pill was going to do after I stopped, I would have stopped much sooner!! I know the experts say that the pill has no effect on fertility, but I'm not so sure I believe that!

Well, my body teased me with a period starting 3 days late, but now I have my baseline ultrasound and starting clomid on Tuesday!! Lots of prayers and baby dust!!!

If all is well with hubby, it sounds like you might have some luck with less interventions - so the Clomid // TI // IUI might be a good place to start. As frustrating as it seems, even perfectly healthy folks can take 12+months to fall pregnant. Considering you have late ovulation, it might just take a little longer.

I would also recommend Letrozole/Femara if you don't have a great response with low dose Clomid. It has less side effects and risks of multiples, and even my stubborn ovaries managed to kickstart to life using that.

We have male factor too (hence moving to IVF for our journey) but hopefully you might not even need to get that far. :)

Ok, here is more news? Any input is appreciated!

It took almost 3 months after going off the pill for af to show up last year. Since then my cycles have been anywhere from 29-34 days...and now I'm on day 36, with temps still high and no sign of af? I'm pretty sure I ovulated on cd 23...I'm a late ovulater with weak ovulation and a shorter lp of 11 days. I am also having zero symptoms!

I was hoping it would come today because I could do my cd3 ultrasound on Saturday, my day off!! Grr. Sorry, venting. Any thoughts on what the heck is happening?

@jaguar yes, my husband was checked and he is just fine, very fertile!

@bluestriped bee that's wonderful to hear. My doctor said I would be an excellent candidate for ivf if we have to go that route. I hope I don't have to, but time will tell!!

@jennaclarenda11: yes, IVF worked on my first try. I did have 3 IUIs at my first clinic with an unknown diagnosis. Switched clinics because there were a few things I was annoyed about. New clinic finally gave me a diagnosis and started me on meds. They were hopeful that IUIs would work since I was on meds. They didn't. The 3 IUI cycles failed. I don't regret it. I wanted to be sure the IUIs weren't the answer before moving to IVF. IVF worked.

@Amorini: you are right! I found this link. http://www.princetonivf.com/hysterosalpinogram-hsg

I think since I had my HSG at my first clinic and had a not so pleasant possibly allergic reaction to the iodine. That when I switched clinics and asked for them to not use iodine and used saline instead, they used SIS & SHG instead. I assumed some dr used the abbreviation SHG or HSG and thought it was the same.

Now that you mentioned it, my new clinic did have my records from my first clinic, maybe that is why I didn't have to do an HSG again. Also, I do remember my new clinic saying that I might have a possible polyp and I had to do something again (I forget).

Ladies, thank you all so much for your input!

@mrswin yes, my SIS was essentially similar to an HSG but via ultrasound approach with saline infusion. I am seeing an RE, and he said my left tube was open like a highway, but my right tube and a little gunk in the way, but was able to flush that out and cleared it wide open as well.

@Faithfertilifty so sorry to read about your losses before your successes. I can't imagine how hard that had to be. I hope to have a story similar to yours very very soon, regardless if it is IUI or IVF!

As far as I know, he is planning on doing a baseline u/s on cd3 ( which should be Saturday?) and I think starting clomid that day, cd3-7 and then a followup u/s on cd10-12? Then trigger someday after that based on my ultrasound on cd10-12.

@Bluestriped Bee I am glad to hear that IVF worked for you! Did it work on your first try? This infertility thing is the most frustrating thing I have ever dealt with, and I am only one year in. I can't imagine 3 years! You are a strong woman!

@amorini Guess I am not too sure about the differences between the HSG and SIS/SHG. But I do know that when my RE was doing mine, he said that my uterus was completely clean, no signs of any fibroids or polypls, and that my tubes looked good.

I truly hope and pray that I am not getting pregnant because of weak ovulation and progesterone issues, because I know that is a much easier fix. But, if IVF is my only option, then I will take it by the horns, and pray that it works!

You ladies are wonderful, thank you for the support!

@jennaclarenda11: Sorry for your struggles but you have found a wonderfully supportive community of ladies who have been there! I don't have too much to add to your particular situation except wanted to pipe in about SIS/SHGs vs HSG.

@bluestriped bee: You have had tons more time (unfortunately!) learning about these things than me, so now I'm second-guessing myself, but according to my RE, the HSG and SHG are quite different and look for different things. I was told that the HSG was checking for blockages or tube issues plus uterine issues that could inhibit natural conception and the SHG was checking strictly for uterine health (fibroids, polyps) and abnormalities that could inhibit implantation or fetal growth.

Could there be variations between clinics on this? My HSG was more like an X-ray of my lady organs aided by the dye while the SHG was a glorified transvaginal u/s with saline. I was a completely different part of the clinic.

I had one HSG and two SHGs in less than one year at my RE. I balked at the second SHG (and $800 price tag) so the administrator walked me through the details of the SHG and all of the equipment costs for it. I guess that's why it sticks in my mind! :silly:

Anyway, I digress but just wanted to add what I have been told about the two diagnostics which is a bit different. Maybe it's worth asking your RE @jennaclarenda11?

Either way, wishing you all the best on this journey! :goodluck:

@mrswin: @FaithFertility: The SIS that she mentions is a Saline infused sonohystogram (spelling?). It's essentially an HSG. Instead of dye, they use saline. After I had an reaction to my first HSG, my new RE gave me an SIS (or sometimes known as SHG). Same thing from what I know. It still unblocks the tubes.

@jennaclarenda11: I don't have your issue but I did have infertility over 3 years (unexplained for 1.5 years). My IUIs didn't work but IVF worked for us. I didn't have a positive test until we tried IVF. Anyway, lots of luck to you. Your RE's plan sounds reasonable to me.

Oh, I had 1 HSG and 2 SIS over my 3 year IF journey. First one at my first clinic. Second one when I switch clinics and third one when we started the IVF process.

Hi!
When I began at my RE I did 25mg of clomid with trigger and IUI
I did get pregnant my first 2 tries, sadly they ended quickly for different reasons!
We found out I had urea plasma that is a bacteria that can cause inflammation in uterus
We tried another IUI that one didn't take!
We decided to do some testing (genetics) before moving to IVF, so we were doing the 3 IUIs before IVF too!
I also took Crinone progesterone after each IUI
During the blood tests and such we did get pregnant :)
No IUI or clomid! That baby is 17 months and I naturally am PG again with a baby boy due in Oct!
I think he is starting you on a good track! Ask for monitoring during your cycle to see if eggs are mature before trigger shot, I think that definitely helps!!
Best of luck!!!!!!

@jennaclarenda11: Welcome! Did the doctor check for a blockage of the tubes with an HSG? This is a pretty basic diagnostic tests that most RE's do as part of the prelim work up. If it were me I would do that test before going ahead with IUI because if there is a blockage you will be spending a lot of time and money for naught.

Are you seeing an RE or just an GYN that does fertility treatment?

Hi Friends,

New to the site here, and really looking for support.

My husband and I have been TTC #1 for one year now, and we have never had a positive test. When I was 18, I had appendicitis, and at the time my doctor had said to me that it might be harder for me to have a baby. At 18, those thoughts never even bothered me. Well, now at 27 I am wishing I investigated this more back then!

About 2 months ago, I started seeing a fertility doctor because of the issue of my appendicitis. After a successful SIS, my tubes are clear! No blockages at all! But why am I not getting pregnant then?? RE thinks it could be related to adhesions on my tubes from the surgery back in the day.

Fast forward to now, RE wants to try clomid+trigger shot+IUI for 3 months, and then move onto IVF. He doesn't want to do much more than 3 months, because if the issue is the tubes, more IUI's aren't going to do anything if the tube can't catch the egg! RE said surgery is not an option as it could cause more problems!

On top of all of this, I have irregular cycles, ovulating as early as cd17 to as late as cd26...quite a range each month. And my progesterone is always low, cue prometrium suppositories each month after ovulation.

Because I am ovulating each month, he is wanting to start me on 25mg of clomid. Anyone have any response to this, or been in a similar situation? I am desperately looking for some hope at the moment...
