With the new law you should be fine. You would have been fine pre the new law however as it is my understanding that on a group plan (through a job) it was not considered pre-existing (so you would be covered) and only some individual/private plans considered it pre-existing.

@Mrs.Hawk71: funny you ask....we actually called my husband's insurance (BCBS) when I found out I was pregnant (literally, after I showed my husband the test) because we wanted to switch me to his. It took a while for them to get me the answer but finally they did tell me that no, pregnancy is not considered a "pre-existing condition." ;-) That made my husband a little (just a little) less nervous.

Pregnancy did not used to be safe and when I was pregnant it was indeed considered a pre existing condition and it cost is through the roof! Now though with ACA it's against the law so you will absolutely be covered.

I thought that as long as you didn't have a lapse in coverage they cover it. I.e. you can't have no insurance, get pregnant, get insurance, and have them cover it-- but if you are just switching insurance they have to. Not sure though!

@Beyond2: ditto.

I will likely have to switch insurance at least once if I get pregnant in the next few months. It is really hard to find a solid resource to state it though.

All plans must provide maternity coverage now regardless of when you became pregnant as far as I know.

It's against the law to consider pregnancy a pre-existing condition. As long as his plan covers spouses (which most do), they have to cover your pregnancy.

Hubs starts a new wonderful job tomorrow, with complete full benefits and health plan. It will be a Blue Cross Blue Shield PPO plan and we are still waiting to find out from his HR lady if it will cover our pre existing pregnancy? Any insight on this from past experience with anyone? Worst case i have a individual plan right now as i am self employed that i would just keep, but it is not nearly as great as his new health plan will be.....
