@cascademom: I thought that might be the case, but this morning we were laying in bed and things were totally quiet and calm and it was still happening :(

Switch to slow flow, the LLL leaders in my area say that a BF baby should never have anything but a slow flow nipple. You can also give them information on how to do a paced feeding which is recommended for BF babies who need bottles; don't know if they would be open to it but worth providing them information.

DS is also doing this (he's also teething so keeps slipping down to gum my nipple - ouch). For him it is a mixture of liking the flow really fast (I had a very strong let-down in the beginning so he got used to that plus the bottles) and being distracted now that he is 6m. I usually switch sides if he pops off more than twice in a row, it is annoying but after one or two switches he realizes he needs to get down to business and eat rather than play.

Is she getting distracted when she feeds? If we don't talk and focus, LO will nurse on the boob without much distraction. Some nights, I have to really hold him to focus on eating. He hates bottles and loves the boob even when my supply sucks.

@prettylizy: Medium flow Medela and Avent nipples. Switching to slow flow for sure now!

I've been manually expressing right into her open mouth and then trying to get her to latch on and we're still having problems with it.

What nipples are you using? I agree, go to a slow flow for sure, or those medela calma nipples that make them suck really hard. You could also try pumping or manually expressing for a few seconds/minutes to activate your let down before you start nursing her so she gets that immediate gratification.

LO had latch issues earlier on, but we seemed to have gotten over them as we nursed more and more.

Now that she is at daycare, and getting a lot of bottles, her latch is getting bad again during the few times we nurse each day. She sucks for a few seconds, but since it isn't coming out as fast as the bottle, she gets annoyed and pops off. I can see that the milk is flowing and if I squeeze my breast I can peg her in the eye with the stream if I'm not careful, so there is definitely milk coming out.

I am going to order some slow flow nipples for her daycare bottles. Any other suggestions?
