I'm on my 2nd kindle reader, and also have a kindle fire (which I never use). LOVE the kindle, and when the screen went bad on my first one after 2 years I just called Amazon and they gave me a discount on a 'refurbished' model, which is just one that was bought and returned, unopened.
I also have the kindle app on my phone so if I don't have my kindle I can pick up reading on that, which is what I usually do for MOTN feeds.

@ldh112: I believe mine is with special offers, I *think* it's just the screensaver, so when you're not using it ads will pop up for new books, etc. I don't mind it? (If that's what is is).

My husband has the kindle paper white and I love it. Just from a de-clutter aspect. He can get as many books as he wants and he’s not cluttering our house with it. He is a tough cookie to convince him to get rid of something so not having to negotiate getting rid of this or that book because he might read it again is great! He can hold a ton of books in the kindle to read or re-read later.

Kindle. Do it. It's so easy to read with one hand!
@ldh112: special offers just means there is an ad on the home page and on the bottom of the page when searching for books. They never interfere with the reading experience.

Love my kindle paperwhite! It doesn't feel so device-y because it isn't really like a phone screen it is liquid ink. Also it is really light, especially compared to an iPad or something. And the batteries last forever. I read a lot (like at least a book a week) and usually I make it through 2 maybe 3 books before having to charge it.

Oh also our library lets you rent library books for the kindle for free. Which is awesome since I read so much and going to the library all the time is annoying. I think I read something like 50-55 books last year and I paid for like... 2.

@mrsrain: You can read library Ebooks for free on a kindle. I've been doing it for several years now and have saved a lot of money by not buying books. You need to use an app on your phone or through your computer called Overdrive Media Console. You don't even have to go to the library to download or return them. It's so convenient and free!

I thought I would hate having an e-reader, but I love my Kindle Paperwhite so much! It feels/looks much more book like than tablets or other readers, but no turning pages or manipulating it to see both sides when you're at a weird angle like with a real book.

I've had a kindle but it stopped working about a year ago so now I use my iPad mini to read. I do feel a bit more strain on my eyes when I read on my iPad. During Amazon Prime day, they had a sale on kindles, so I got one. The new kindle I got was much smaller than the one I had before.

When I was pregnant last time I asked for a Kindle paperwhite for Christmas to replace my first generation one, because I wanted a backlight, and I used it all the time. It's just enough light that you don't worry it will disturb a sleeping baby. Like everybody else has said, nice and light and easy to turn pages with one hand, and if you finish a book and the nap isn't over you can just get a new one. I highly recommend it.

Love my Kindle! Easy to use while nursing or rocking a sleeping baby. I like the bigger screen (compared to phone). I could never read a real book with babe in my hands. DH read a lot on his Kindle while rocking our LO in the early days. Also I love that I can get a new book instantly which is great for those days when you are t getting out a lot.

I have an old kindle and love it. I had a lot of the same concerns about it being like a device, but it's really not. When this one goes kaput, I'll definitely get a paperwhite to replace it.

I read on an iPad Mini through apps from the Library (aka popular stuff all for free). I don't have Facebook or email or anything installed on the Mini so that I'm not distracted while reading. The nice thing is that even though it is backlit, you can turn the brightness way down and adjust the contrast and use sepia tone or black background with white text so that it's not too harsh for your eyes. And then you can have the lights in the baby's room way down so as not to disrupt baby's sleep.

I love my kindle paperwhite. It's completely different from a phone or tablet because it's just for reading - you don't get sucked into looking at Facebook or shopping when you really intended to read a book.

It allows me to read while nursing LO to sleep or while co-sleeping because I don't have to turn a light on. You can also borrow eBooks from the library.

@ldh112: Kindle paperwhite (I have the voyage), no question. I've read more in the last 9 months as a nursing mom than I have in the past few years as a result! I found that turning my phone/tablet on during night feedings was massively screwing up the little sleep I was getting because of the back light, so I turned to the kindle and it's been great. I can read one-handed (a must!), I can download books from the library for free....it's been great.

I used my Kindle all the time. It's an older version of the touch, but I would have loved the Paperwhite version. It was way too hard for me to flip pages on a regular books so I doubt I'd have read much while nursing if I didn't have a Kindle. I find the app on my phone okay for occasional reading (I usually download my current book to both my Kindle and phone so I always have it handy) but if I'm reading for more than a few minutes, the phone app bugs me.

I have a Sony e-reader and I love it! I wasn't so sure at first when DH first bought it for me but I am a complete convert. When it dies I am definitely buying a Kindle paperwhite. Just get an actual e-reader, not something with the backlight (like a tablet, Fire, etc).

The light on the Kindle Paperwhite isn't a backlight. It's some LEDs on the bottom of the screen that sort of shine "over" the screen if that makes sense? Anyway, doesn't hurt my eyes like a backlit screen does. And I haven't had any problem dozing off while reading on it lol.

I recommend kindle... I find myself wanting to read in scenarios where it is otherwise dark... like breasfeeding over night or in bed for ten minutes after my husband is asleep. I was a hard sell on the kindle but it has worked out!

I love the kindle. I have an original, it doesn't have light on it which is good because I feel like reading with the backlight interferes with my sleep. And it doesn't have games or anything, it is just so handy not to have to hold something while you are trying to read and nurse. Highly recommend an older kindle. I would do the bigger screen so there is more text for you to read before you have to push the button for the next page.
