Yep 4 months is when they get super distracted! If he was really unable to focus I would go in his room with lights off and feed in there. Less distraction and more calm. He'd usually finish then.
As for the nipple, it does take a little time to adjust. We did usually switch to the next size up before the "posted" age. Also Dr Browns. The first few times he dribbled a lot but eventually got used to it. I would start with th faster nipple and in case he really struggled or was mad I would keep the slower nipple in one of the screw on collars nearby. So if I had to I could just screw off one and screw on the other right where we sat. But usually only had to do that a couple of times before he realized he liked faster better!

@paigeface: I am 6 mo postpartum and right there with you on both accounts! The hair loss is getting a little better now but still pretty annoying. Anytime I blow dry my hair the sink is COVERED. So gross.

My daughter is still super distracted and annoying to feed most of the time. I am sure temperament is a part of it - she is super aware and into everything around her. Sometimes we take breaks and then try again after a few minutes of her getting her fill of wiggling around. :) We moved up recently to medium flow nipples and it's hard to say if it's helped. No advice- just commiserating! Maybe he will grow out of it but she sure hasn't!

I choose nipple size based on whether lo seems frantic for more, the amount of gas being caused, that sort of thing. Distraction is normal though! My first was like that around that age, second is already that way at three months.

@snowjewelz: OH NO! I'm sorry yours lasted so long. I was just getting over a really bad dye job and pregnancy made my hair so beautiful again and grew it out really long. Now I feel like I'm back and square one. So disheartening. :crying:

@hilsy85: Great idea! He does seem very distracted by everything around him during feeding.

@T.H.O.U.: He is exclusively bottle fed since 2 months. I never knew why they had so many different size nipple flow for the Dr. Browns bottles!

It is totally crazy! I feel like I am going insane every time I touch my hair!

Bottles - Are you BFing and Bottle feeding? Around that age my son really struggled with a bottle nipple as well. But for a BF baby, you would want to stay on the slowest flow nipple.

Hair - Yes its crazy how much you can loose. I was like that for over 2 months. Its growing back in now and I have weird chunks of short hair that stick up!

Hair loss is normal. It sucks!

As for the feeding, we didn't do bottles, but I had a similar struggle while nursing. It didn't really improve til he was closer to 1, I think he was just so distracted by everything. It helped to feed him in a dark quiet room.

I lost a lot of hair around that time. It lasted several months. It was gross and annoying. But even though I thought I would end up bald, I didn't. ;)

@paigeface: no help on the bottles, but yeah, the hair loss was insane. I really think you could see scalp in some patches. It was everywhere no matter what I did. Then it all grew back and I looked like a crazy person with a halo of frizz and inch long. It had just finally started getting normal again when I got pregnant again...

I've written in a lot in the past two weeks and still have questions to be helped with! motherhood is never-ending with new questions!

First, did anyone else's 4 month old struggle while bottle feeding and move around a bunch. He keeps pressing up on the bottle and pulling it out of his mouth on accident. I swear he never stops moving! I tried the Dr. Browns next size up in nipples (the 3 month +) and he didn't seem to like how much faster it came out so I stay with the 1+ and they still seem too slow for him. Should I keep trying with the new ones?

Second, HOLY hair loss. My hair is coming out in what seems to be handfuls every time I touch it. It falls out constantly for the last week. The shower drain is a disaster too. Is this the norm for post part hair loss? I hope - because I feel like I am going bald!
