I think the key with any kind of transition like this is just being super excited about it and involving your LO when possible, at least, that has worked for us. Our older LO didn't have to switch rooms, but we put him in a twin 3 months before the baby was due and he didn't even ask about going back to his crib (which we had to keep in his room for awhile).

We did this and what worked for us was moving the entire crib into her "big girl room". It looked a little silly to have a crib and a bed in the same room but she got used to the room while being in her comfortable crib then got used to the big bed. We didn't have any problems at all! The crib disappeared for a month or two and then reappeared when DD2 was ready for it.

Are the rooms similar size? If so, I would maybe suggest just switching the furniture rather than the whole room. That's what we did and LO has adjusted great! We told her her crib and other furniture was for babies, not big girls, and then we gave her all the furniture that had been in the guest room (including a queen bed). She was super excited and not at all apprehensive that we "gave her stuff to the baby" which was my biggest fear. I liked that she stayed in a familiar space.

With another one coming in February, we are making the guest room DDs "big girl room" and keeping the nursery as is. Its almost ready, and we want to spend a few weeks telling her how "cool" this new room is - before moving her. I also want her moved before baby sister moves in, so she doesn't associate the two. Any tips or tricks? I've heard a lot of horror stories, so I'm hoping for advice from seasoned mamas. Anything that worked? That you'd do differently?

We are moving her to a big bed with rails - we aren't doing a toddler bed. More of a budget thing - we already have the bed.
