@peaches1038: No building sets or art supplies would have interested C for five minuets at 2.5 🤣🤣🤣 Depending on what your nephew likes, consider a big tonka dump truck. That would have been the ticket for us!!

I have a busy 2.5 year old. The things that hold his attention are trains and hot wheels and his paw patrol toys.

His own baby doll or stuffy to take care of. My DS loves to feed and rock his. Play food is also good.

My daughter is about to turn 2, so a little younger, but I agree with the water wow and color wonder. I love color wonder. I don't have to watch her to make sure she's not coloring on anything she's not supposed to. I'm sure that would be great with a new baby around!

Other ideas are play dough and the Melissa and Doug Poke a Dot books. They are very interactive and keep my daughter busy for awhile.

Also, a sorting/play food toy like this would be a big hit with my daughter. I know she'd love moving the different pieces from bowl to bowl, trying out the tongs, and playing pretend with it. Just another idea.

My daughter is almost three and here a few other suggestions-
Water play is a huge hit. This science hit always gets a long play time and will be great once the weather is nice for outside play. You could do cheap $1 measuring cups and spoons too. There are cheaper options on amazon but this is the one I got-
https://www.amazon.com/Learning-Resources-Primary-Science-Activity/dp/B0035EQDTU/ref=sr_1_4?dchild=1&keywords=lakeshore+learning+water+science&qid=1615034486&sr=8-4

Trains/ train tracks.

Shovel/ bucket to use for dirt in backyard.

Lego duplos.

Dot markers or paint sticks.
I have these paint sticks and they are a big hit-

I second magnatiles!

My boys loved these at that age (and still now!) We keep a set in our camper and they are constantly digging/building/dozing/whatever with them! Quality is decent for the price, but they are affordable enough that it’s nbd if they get left somewhere.
https://amzn.to/3qjvj91

Also this is a go to gift for big brother/sisters. Quiet but busy activity, even if they just sort the shapes on the back.
https://amzn.to/3qhg68J

And this book. We have several “big brother” book but this was always everyone’s fav!

Magnatiles are a great idea. We have a few sets of Picasso tiles (less expensive brand - seems to work just as well for us though!) that have been a hit for years. But they were especially popular with my younger one when she was 2-3.

My kids also really liked this bear puzzle (https://www.amazon.com/Melissa-Doug-Dress-Up-Preschool-Construction/dp/B00146G706) at that age. It was one of my daughter's go-to puzzles when I was dealing with her baby sister.

If he doesn’t have magnatiles yet those are my almost 3 year olds favorite thing - he’ll actually sit still and build with them for a while. He also loves coloring, maybe some Color Wonder type markers so he doesn’t need to be watched with them?

Hey all! My sister (who lives in FL) is due with her second baby in may and will have a 2.5 year old at that time. I want to send my nephew a few things to keep him busy while she is nursing/healing/etc. I have an only child who is 5 and I can’t remember what 2.5 year olds can do or what they like! My nephew is VERY busy and doesn’t sit to look at books, etc. I already have a few waterwow books and I’m thinking about Melissa and doug 8 piece puzzles but I’m not sure if those are as good for a 2.5 year old. I’m going to ask my sister too but she already has a lot on her mind and I want to make her life easier, not give her more decisions to make! So any suggestions would be so appreciated!
