Thanks for sharing. It makes a lot of sense to me. I hope one day SIDS is something that no parent ever has to worry about anymore.

Wow, I love reading about things like this. It makes me so happy to see big leaps like this. I know it is too soon but i the wishing part of me wants a step I can take. Even if they just said it was worth it to buy an Angelcare monitor if your baby's hearing test comes back slightly abnormal.

That is a really interesting theory! I hope that it leads to something, because hearing screens are already done at many hospitals as standard, and they could use those to ID at risk babies and take more precautions.

This is a great article! Thanks for sharing... I remember my first months home with my first baby.. I never slept, literally because I was so terrified... I'd fall asleep looking into her bassinet. I hope this research continues.

It is so great to see this research happening. My BFF's cousin's baby just died of SIDS a couple weeks ago...it's a very, very real thing :( And i hope someday it's wholly preventable

I don't know if my of this is true, and we will never truly know and surely won't have any clear indication until his research dives a bit deeper, but I am SO GLAD for one thing and that is that SIDS research is taking on a different direction. I refuse to believe that these babies are dying for no reason at all. I look forward to a world (if we see it) where SIDS are not as prevalent as it is and it is not a constant fear. I lived in fear my first couple of months home with my newborn.
Once they have some evidence as to why it happens, the medical world can better convince parents to deal with it accordingly, because I know there are some parents to this day who just think it is a freak accident type thing and don't care to *try* to prevent it.
Kudos to that mama who donated to the research!

Hmm, interesting. My nephew has an minor hearing impairment. Does that mean he was at a higher risk of SIDS? He is now 3 years old, so the risk is pretty much gone.

But wouldn't you think they would have seen this link sooner? My nephew was diagnosed with his hearing issue pretty young. Or is it possible the babies that died of SIDS had undetectable or undiagnosed hearing impairment?

Guess I should be thankful that my nephew is still alive and kicking.

This makes SO much sense! I saw a thing quite awhile back that talked about when we sleep the hearing part of the brain is the only thing still "on" (why we wake to alarms).... if a baby's didn't work correctly it would totally make sense they wouldn't stir to normal obstructions.
