I wanted to delay but I had a tough delivery and the cord was wrapped twice around DS neck. Hopefully this next time!

We did delayed clamping as well, largely because I delivered in Europe and we were planning to relocate to the US, so I wasn't sure if I could transport the fluid.

@bisous: I've heard this from a few obgyns & it really baffles me.... like will blood going to our feet reverse & flow back to our heart if we turn upside down? (obviously not) lol... I could see how it might slow the flow but it's pumping it into the baby just like our hearts pump blood to our feet (even upside down). *shrugs shoulders*

My OB was open to almost everything in our plan, but not delayed clamping! :( something about gravity and the way the blood flows if you get immediate skin to skin. Made me sad, but I trusted her expertise and went with it!

I will delay for #2.

We did delayed clamping. My mw waiting until it stopped pulsing and then asked me if she could clamp. I appreciated her support!

I hope this helps urge those providers who aren't practicing delayed cord clamping to do so!

I was ecstatic to find out that my MW doesn't clamp/cut the cord until after the placenta is delivered! (given there are no complications of course)

We also did delayed clamping until it stopped pulsing and I think it's a pretty common request at our hospital. The doc and nurses were like "sure! of course!"

Interesting! As a general rule, my OB waits until my cord stops pulsating before clamping. However, she made sure to ask if I wanted to wait even longer.

I was surprised to hear at our birthing class that this is actually the standard practice in our health region. They said all but the most old school doctors in this district (or emergent situations) tend to default to clamping after the cord has stopped pulsating.

I kind of assumed it was a new age, crunchy idea. But I guess BC is kind of a new age, crunchy area.

I wasn't sure what category to put this in...

I kind of thought delayed cord clamping was a "hippy" kind of movement, until an RN group I follow on twitter posted this article:

http://www.m.webmd.com/baby/news/20130711/health-highlights-july-11-2013

Very interesting. My only experience with delayed cord clamping was when I was a nursing student and a baby was born blue and not breathing and the mom didn't want them to cut the cord yet but the baby was blue and not breathing! And I am not an L&D nurse so that's all I've seen. Made me against it... But this article makes me much more open to it!
