@highwire: Oh, good! I mean, it probably won't cancel out everything, but it will hopefully help quite a bit.

Luckily, for the first few months, your LO will probably sleep through a lot. But after 2 months or so, they tend to get more aware of their surroundings.

UGH, that's annoying. I'm in the city where there is not a lot of room for development, but they have been working on our building and doing tons of drilling for the past month and there is a school filled with obnoxiously loud children right behind our apartment. I hate being "that" mom, but I curse them every time recess starts (at least in my head).

I strongly recommend a white noise machine! We would use it regardless since our apartment is tiny and LO's bedroom is right by our kitchen and living room, but I think it would be useful in your situation. We got a cheap one from Buy Buy Baby by Homedics. I think it was like, $25. Plugs in, has multiple settings, goes pretty loud, basically does the trick.

Hope construction concludes quickly so all that hammering is done before your LO arrives!

@MamaMoose: Good point! They do really spring up quickly. Maybe I can hope that they will be done building before the baby arrives LOL

@highwire: The good news is that these days builders have limited work and are pretty desperate to get their money so homes tend to go up really quickly!! Sorry you're dealing with this!

@highwire: oh that totally reminds me. When my parents were building their cabin they kept finding human poop piles and toilet paper everywhere in our forest. So freaking nasty!

@anonysquire: Boo!! One of the things that drives me the most crazy about the building process in my neighborhood is that the workers leave their trash EVERYWHERE. All of the lots that are being built are covered with coke cans, hot dog containers, etc. I'm really not interested in that shit blowing all over my lawn (and I'm not even the one they need to be worried about. DH is going to flip if there is trash in his yard that he works so hard on)!

They are building a school right across the street from my house. I think they have been building it for like 8months already. Since they do all the work during the day I get no freaking sleep.arghhhhhhh!

When we moved into our subdivision last year, there were still a lot of empty lots and building of new homes has been a constant in our neighborhood. The house we bought had two lots next to it that have been completely empty the whole time we've lived there. I always joked that they would probably break ground and start building just as soon as we had a newborn in the house.

I'm due in 4 weeks, and they broke ground on both lots yesterday. The nursery window looks out right onto the lots and will be basically a few feet away from an obscene amount of construction as they put the two houses up. Awesome timing!

Does anyone sell noise blocking curtains? ;)
