We bought our house in August, and preschool registration around here is like November, so I had to scramble. I got super lucky that someone had just dropped out over the summer so she got a spot at a preschool really close, but it's really hard! And that was with us still starting in September. I would just keep calling and putting her on wait lists and hope someone moves...

We moved at the end of summer, but didn't know which city/state we were going to until May. Unfortunately most preschools do enrollment in March! So of course almost everything was waitlist :( We ended up finding one place that we got into right away, but then got off the waitlist for a more preferred place in July. And then we ended up switching after the holidays to a different one!

I think that's just how things work. Have you looked a little farther from where you'd prefer to be? Depending on the size/options in your area, I'd have to imagine there is SOMETHING somewhere! Or looked at alternative type places? As a backup, we also have really good programming at our local YMCAs, so (worst case), I could have 2 free hours of childcare there, which from 9-11a includes stories, art, and some other things (dance, yoga, etc if you want).

I think I may end up in the same position, it's so frustrating - as if the transition of moving for kids isn't hard enough! I wish I had advice...could you try another nearby town?

This happened to us at daycare. We moved when LO was 8 months. It took a month to find anything. Both grandmas flew in to take a week and DH took a week. I found a spot at an in home day care for two months only. That spot was reserved for one boy's baby brother. We had to switch at that point. We had a grandma out again before we could start a new daycare. Such a PITA.

@LuLu Mom: Good luck! I hope you find something soon.

Have you tried the in home centers too? Sounds like unfortunately you might have to just wait it out. There's a chance we will be in the same situation, it sucks.

We are moving to a new town/school district in 2 weeks, and i've been calling all the area preschools since we sold out house/got our new one to try and get DD1 in, even if it's when the new semester starts in january. Everything is booked, and i'm waitlisted on all of them. It's so frustrating, how to they expect families who just move to town to continue education? How did you handle this situation?
