For our first long car ride at that age, I bought a smooshy spiral toy bar thingy that she still loves. We move it from her infant seat to the bar on our stroller, its always a hit. He hasn't really started using it for teething purposes yet but does like cuddling with it and looking at the different colors. It has a link that you can attach to the car seat. We got it as gift while we were on a road trip and I remember she played with it on the ride home. We just heard "crinkle crinkle crinkle" the whole trip.
