My friends always set up a burrito bowl bar at big events and it goes over well. Beans, meat, rice (cheap and filling!), cheese, olives, salsa, guacamole, etc. Between that and other heavy apps/snack you should be covered!

I agree with heavy appetizers, and you could do BBQ pulled chicken/beef/pork mini sliders for something a little more substancial, or a sandiwch platter.

Meatballs, spinach dip, tortilla rollups, taco dip, little weines, veggie pizza, chex mix, cookies/desserts, crackers/cheese/meat, cheese ball, ect. People can get full on these items & will munch as they drink.

I feel like you can keep it simple. Chips and salsa, veggies and dip, etc. For a meal-ish type item.. hm.. pizza is easy and still tastes good cold. Or you could do like a taco bar sort of thing and have taco meat in a crock pot to keep it hot. Fried chicken/wings is another thing that tastes good both hot and cold. (Lol obviously I'd suggest pizza, tacos, or fried chicken….).

I would incorporate traditionl NY Day foods that bring good luck...collards, black eyed peas, and fried chicken.

Seafood and Sausage Gumbo over rice can be a substantial meal.

For fancy flare- stuffed mushrooms, oysters.

Empanadas with cilantro dip.

Brownies with gold sugar dust.

We never do meals for New Years Eve parties just a lot of snacks. Brie and sourdough, stuffed mushrooms, cranberry and jalopeno meat balls, a shrimp platter, crab wontons, usually a cheese and veggie tray are the favorites.

What about a sandwich station with croissants, meats, cheeses, etc.?

How about some fun, filling appetizers?
Meatballs in a crockpot and have dinner rolls and some cheese to make mini meatball sandwiches.
Shrimp cocktail.
Chips and/or breads and dips.
Baked wings (those are good hot or room temp!)
Veggie pizza.
Cheese and crackers.

We are throwing a New Year's Eve party this year but I'm sort of at a loss for what to serve. I like having things that people can snack on all night but also having something substantial since we are starting early in the night (over the dinner hour) and people will be drinking. DH suggested sloppy joes but I'm not a huge fan, so I thought I'd see what ideas everyone has.
